What about When Liz Lemon on _30 Rock_ was throwing a party? Someone said (referring to an older character named Dick who was expected) “It wouldn’t be a Lemon party without old Dick!” ---

I don’t mind slipping dirty jokes in as double entendres and such. That’s clever and amusing and cool… but when your joke is basically “I have anal sex on the third date, ISN’T THAT HILARIOUS?” that crosses a line. The sin is that it just isn’t funny, it’s shocking, but not well written or funny. ---

I think that the dirtiest joke I ever heard on 2.5 Men was when Berta said that Charlie breaks up with his girlfriends before their hoohas develop 5 o’clock shadow. That’s way cleaner and more clever than the anal joke. Funnier, too. ---

I like the philosophy of the Renaissance Fairs we’ve gone to – “If your children get our jokes, it’s not our fault.” (“I blame the Internet.”) The point was that the double entendre was so couched as to be ambiguous enough so the unwary would not catch it. TV, however, often caters to the unsophisticated. It’s as subtle as a sledgehammer. It’s gettuing better, overall, but in risque humor it’s utterly blatant, and hasn’t even the sophistication of 1950s pulp magazines. ---
