After reading this stuff over and over again the conclusion I arrive to is that I should start pimping and make a bloody fortune. 😛
Or do like Stickman and become a detective. It’s quite a lucrative little sideline, I hear.

Yay! I am pleased to report a documented happy farang-Thai relationship. See [here](http://www.idahostatesman.com/115/story/441154.html).

Excerpt: “Doug and Kathy were married for 32 years before Doug died of brain cancer at age 61 on June 20 at their home in Boise.”

My own Thai wife and I are well on our way to that. (Except hopefully not for the brain-cancer-at-61 part, plus I don’t live in Boise. And my name’s not Doug. Nor is my wife’s Kathy. Otherwise, it could be us someday.)

RIP, Doug. ☹

And in other bargirl news, [here](http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/aug/17/thailand.familyandrelationships) we have the tale of a retired British gent murdered recently by his ex-bargirl wife and her Thai boyfriend. The writers are long-time Thailand-based reporters. Drummond in particular writes extensively on Thai-farang crime.

And [here](http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/aug/17/thailand.familyandrelationships1) is a good article, “Where an Older Man Can Think He Is Debonair,” by the co-author of _Hello My Big Big Honey! Love Letters to Bangkok Bar Girls and Their Revealing Interviews_. I have that book, which is, as the title suggests, a collection of letters between bargirls and their sponsors. The book is a fascinating read.
The word “Farang” I recently learned by accident, came to Thailand via India, where it was a corruption of the Turkish word “Ferengi,” for “Frank” their catch-all term for Western Europeans.

I have no idea why Star Tek used the term.
Because the term also means “stranger” and in some contexts “enemy”, which is not uncommon in many cultures.
