Their choice of names was unfortunate to say the least. But, just think about the good you would be doing to the memory of the physicist and electrical engineer, by increasing public knowledge of his genius and legacy. I’m still royally pissed that I never heard the name Tesla in high school. It’s an absolute crime - in fact I once almost started a pit rant about it. The things he did affect each of our lives every day. Did you know that he invented the AC induction motor? That Tesla, NOT Marconi, invented radio? (Marconi’s patents were overturned by the Supreme Court after Tesla’s death due to evidence that Tesla had patented the same things years earlier.) The man pioneered AC power and had an electrical until named for him, for chrissake, and chances are the man you meet on the street has no idea who he was. Many of his innovations STILL are credited to other people in America’s collective conscious. Sorry - I get worked up about this subject. I carry a torch for poor ole Nikola, who died alone and penniless with only his pigeons for company. Anyway, pick a good name for your new best friend, but are you sure about discarding the Tesla idea? Maybe think on it for awhile; see what the Mullinatrix thinks. It would be a good name for this dog for training, as **aenea** pointed out. Also, it could spark some interesting conversations. Someone might even whip out pictures of their Tesla coil project (a guy did this to me in a bar one night.) I’d be eternally grateful, as would [this man](http://www.concentric.net/~Jwwagner/) and all of his students. Hey, do it for the cause of fighting ignorance. -sulla ---

I vote for Einstein, because Goldens, while EXTREMELY sweet and gentle, are also very dumb. A coworker of mine has a Golden puppy named Madison (after the doctor that saved its life), and he is as dumb as a box of rocks. We all love him anyway. Make sure to get pet insurance. Buy from a reputable private breeder, never a pet store or “nursery”. ---

I vote for Tesla. It sounds cool, it’s good for training the dog, and it’s a conversation starter. If you don’t want to give a dog such a classy name, I’d go for Floozy. Playful, fun, cute, very Golden. ---

The most creative name I ever saw for a dog was Toao (pronounced Toe-a-o). It stood for The One And Only. Maybe you can think up something like that for your dog? ---

The part about Golden’s being “dumb as a box of rocks” is pretty accurate. Most of the retriever/setter species fall into this affliction. A friend had one of the most beautiful Irish Setters that he ultimately renamed “BD”. Short for Brain Damaged. It fit. The dog responded equally to both names… Tesla? Might as well name the dog Tupperware. Edison and Reagan are still the best I’ve seen posted. 10 years from now when you call the dog people will automatically related “Edison” with T.A – though the light bulb image is quite ironic. Every mention of “Tesla” as the dog’s name will require an explanation when strangers are present. SouthernStyle ---

If you’re like most people, you will shorten the name and end up calling the dog by the nickname more often than not. With that in mind, I think “Tes” sounds cool (or even pronounced more like “Tez”). Do you really want a dog nicknamed “Ed”? Or “Ein”? ---

Of those mentioned, I vote for Rebound. All of the labs I have known would fit the name - they’re all very energetic. Actually, thinking of the labs I’ve known, Kamikaze would work too. ---

The coolest dog name we had in our family growing up was Sherman, but I’m guessing that would go over poorly in Atlanta. So you should name your dog Cecil. Or Zotti. ---
