> I haven’t said a whole lot about the Obama/Ayers connection before, but if you’re seriously going to try to draw this thin relationship between Palin and Vogler, then you’re opening yourself up to a barrage of damning relationships between Obama and various unsavory characters that are much, much stronger. You sure you want to go there?

Show me the video of Obama supporting his past cause and then you will have a point.

> I swear, the Daily Kos is the worst enemy of the Democrats this year. They started the whole nonsense about Palin’s baby, and helped create a media frenzy that turned into a huge backlash and ensured that Palin would have a huge audience for her speech.

Thank you for confirming my suspicions that indeed that obscure diarist was a plant, the fact was that the majority of posters condemned that diarist and it was branded an unfounded rumor, and never put in the vetoed front page. And once again acting like you do know how a blog works does not give you any credit, it does once again discredit you in this subject.

> Now they want to start playing ‘connect the terrorist’ games based on amazingly thin connections, at a time when Obama is trying to downplay his connections to Ayers and Rezko and others. With friends like that, you don’t need enemies. And you’re not helping by unquestionally spreading their glurge on public message boards and widening the message.

Once again, cite that they are still working or following the path they were accused of following before?

We are talking of today’s support and Palin’s husband was a party member of the AIP until 2002 and then Palin published her “keep up the good work” AIP video **this year**.

Of course there is, cite of him doing those activities now?

In this clip, AIP Vice Chairman of the AIP, Dexter Clark reveals that:

```
"Our current governor who I mentioned at the last conference, the one we were hoping would get elected, Sarah Palin, did get elected . . . .and there was a lot of talk about her moving up. She was an AIP member before she got the job as mayor . . ."
> And your definition of respectable and mine are obviously different. Ayers managed to get himself a professorship, where he still teaches radicalism and still says that he’s unrepentant for the bombings and might even do it again. The fact that he’s ‘respected’ in the circles Obama keeps is an indictment of that circle, not a justification for Obama’s friendship.
It would be if today they are running around doing those things, lets see the AIP toss away the independence part of their party then. As even Jonah Goldberg had to admit, he does not think Obama supports domestic terrorism after investigating those accusations, the only thing that remains is guilt by weak association. The connection Palin has with sedition is like being joined at the hip. And while this is not as bad as bombings, having a VP that does not have the interest of all Americans in mind is \*\*currently \*\*the issue.
The founder of the AIP, Joe Vogler, mentor and hero to the Palins, was murdered while trying to buy [black market plastic explosives](http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=940CE3DB153CF936A25753C1A962958260). So yes, he was a terrorist, at least as much as Bill Ayers was. The difference is that Obama condemned Ayers’ group while Sarah Palin said “job well done” to, and her husband was a member of a radical, right wing, anti-American separatist group founded by a terrorist who said he He hated America.
So there.
Strawman. Show me a video of Palin supporting any violent actions whatsoever. Hell, show me a video of her supporting secession. Or any kind of contact she, or any member of her family, personally had with Volgel. The argument I was refuting wasn’t that Palin hasn’t been sympathetic to the AIP, but that somehow she has ‘terrorist associations’, which is ludicrous.
Wow, if I my comment that Kos is hurting Obama ‘confirms your suspicions that the diarist was a plant’, I’m not sure quite what to say, other than you might want to rethink that.
> [@](#):
> Once again, cite that they are still working or following the path they were accused of following before?
I didn’t say that. I DID cite Ayers own words, from 2001, saying that he was unrepentent for bombing, and in fact wouldn’t rule out the possibility of doing it again.
Personally, I wouldn’t choose to hang around with someone like that, and while i don’t think Obama is in any way sympathetic to terrorism, I think he showed poor judgment by accepting the invitation to host his Senate meet-and-greet at Ayer’s home.
Incidentally, I’m not holding Obama particularly accountable here. The fact is, the Chicago political machine is pretty tight, and Ayers is a big name in those circles. Given that you want to try to break into the Chicago political machine, dealing with scum like Ayers is probably the price of doing business. I don’t think it says anything about Obama being a radical or sympathizing with the Weathermen or anything like that. However, if the left is going to try to tie Palin to Volgel and brand her a ‘terrorist sympathizer’ based on far, far more tenuous connections than those between Obama and Ayers, it will open the door for those kinds of attacks on Obama. It’s a stupid tactical move, just as going after Palin’s kid was a stupid tactical move. Engage in it at your peril.
> [@](#):
> We are talking of today’s support and Palin’s husband was a party member of the AIP until 2002 and then Palin published her “keep up the good work” AIP video **this year**.
Yep. And you can support the AIP without being a secessionist, just as lots of people support the Parti Quebecois without wanting Quebec to secede, and lots of people supported the reform party in Alberta without wanting Alberta to secede. Alaska is a fairly new state, with a strong self-identity, and there’s still a lot of Alaskan nationalism there. It’s part of the culture. The AIP isn’t some fringe militia - it’s an official party with official party status which gets a reasonable percentage of the vote, and which for years has been mostly focused on federalism and states’ rights than on Alaskan secession. In any event, it has never endorsed or even suggested violence. We have no idea why Volgel was trying to buy plastic explosives, or even if he was - the only evidence for that is the word of his murderer. For all we know, Volgel was planning on knocking over a bank. In any event, what he did is no reflection on the AIP, and certainly not a reflection on the Palins.
Look, this is just a stupid argument, and I’ve already refuted it thoroughly above. Go read it.
And by the way, buying plastic explosives on the black market does not make you a terrorist. It makes you a buyer of illegal explosives. Maybe he wanted to buy them to murder his wife, for all I know. Or to go ‘dynamite fishing’. What makes you a terrorist is when you engage in terrorist acts, or plot to engage in terrorist acts. Do you have ANY evidence that Vogler had done so? Any evidence other than the word of his killer that he was even buying explosives? Any evidence that if he was, he was doing so to engage in terrorism? Any evidence that IF he was buying explosives, and IF they were intended to be used for terrorism, that this had any connection to the AIP whatsoever? Any evidence that IF there was a connection to the AIP, that this was something a casual member like Todd Palin would have even known about?
Really, this is a ridiculous argument. And frankly, by making it you forfeit any right you have to get incensed when Republicans go after Obama’s connections with Ayers, which are much stronger and involve a real terrorist who has admitted to doing it and who has said he could do it again.
As Diogenes site shows it was not ridiculous.
And you are the one pushing a mega strawman, As there is no video of Obama or Palin supporting terrorism, my sedition point is about a VP candidate that is being sold as a candidate for America when she is only for Alaska.
> [@](#):
>
> Wow, if I my comment that Kos is hurting Obama ‘confirms your suspicions that the diarist was a plant’, I’m not sure quite what to say, other than you might want to rethink that.
As I mentioned before in a different thread it is a deceiving tactic, last used by Lord Monckton in a Physicists forum. Maybe Monkton was sincere but the fact remains the right wing boggosphere did their damnedest to report that a poster in a forum showed the majority of physicists were now against the idea that Humans had a hand in the current climate change. As in Daily Kos the post was branded as misleading. Be for that branding the reports of the post in the right wing blogosphere came too fast and too quick, considering that the forum was not common knowledge, it does follow then that Monkton or an associate knew it was going to be posted and announced where to find it, and the operation to discredit the physicists was then afoot.
I have to suspect that you are only following or repeating the same tactic here.
So is that supposed to be a scary revelation on Obama? Old and already considered news.
I’m not concentrating on the terror angle but I suspect only more straw being tossed. Currently seeing Palin supporting people that want to separate from America and demanding that now we have to pick her to represent America is dumb.
Good to know, then like Canadians (at least the ones that speak English) in Quebec will continue to vote against them, Americans then can figure out if we all want that peculiar part of Alaskan culture in the top seats of government.
There is no reflection, what she did in the video was support for the AIP (and the straw is to assume I’m concentrating on the terror angle)
Pathetic, their own words for all to hear and we have to trust the say so of the mouthpiece in denial mode?
It is her own words, now your opinion is that this is not important, that is OK, the silly thing is to bring Obama dirt that even the serious right wing reporters have to admit it is a stretch. The sedition I think I see here in the AIP is just a continuation of the new Republican tradition of selecting a VP that will not have the interest of all Americans in mind.
You need a cite for Obama supporting him in any shape or form, you continuing to insist in that bit of tenuous connection has the effect of discrediting you.
I want to see a public rejection of the AIP from Palin, as Obama had to reject and leave his church for what a minister mentioned this year.
I can see how you think that since the economy sucked so bad during that last Democratic president we had.
I’m not crazy about everything in Obama’s Blueprint for change but I do believe he’ll be a president who actually tries to find real solutions. It won’t be prefect but saving 10 billion a month on a horrific war might leave us a little room for UHC. First we have to get an administration in office that really wants to solve problems and will listen to an opposing view to find solutions. Then we can work together to find decent solutions and compromises.
Neither does vandalizng some empty government rooms, but if you want to lower the definition of “terrorist,” then I can do it too.
You’re wrong on both counts. Ayers was a vandal, not a terrorist, and while Obama has only the most trivial ties to Ayers and none to the Weathermen, Palin’s husband was actually a _member_ of the AIP. While Obama has repudiated Ayers’ activities of 40 years ago, Sarah palin gives a big thumbs up to the AIP.
Maybe secessionists are an accepted component of Canadian politics but we don’t cotton to that shit down here. It’s fine with me if the Palins don’t want to be Americans, but I don’t want them in my American White House.
Obama’s vaporous connection to the activities of an ancient hippie in a long defunct 60’s radical hippie group is laughable straw clutching. The Palins’ connection to the AIP includes documented membership and current praise.
Tabloid trash until there’s some actual evidence, much like I felt wrt the faked pregnancy story.
However, of possible interesting note, on Wednesday the former business partner with whom she’s alleged to have had the affair, filed an emergency motion to have his divorce records made confidential. The motion was denied on Thursday. It will be interesting to see why he was so anxious to have those records sealed.
Actually, the records have already been looked at. It turns out that he was so anxious to have them sealed simply because he realized that the muckracking press was on its way to dig through everything associated with Palin they could find, and were about to make details of his private life very public. So he tried to have his records sealed.
It turns out that the only mention of the Palins at all is in the request to seal his divorce records.
> [@](#):
>
> So why did an associate of Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s husband file an emergency court motion Wednesday to seal all the documents in his divorce case? As followers of the Palin feeding frenzy know, the National Enquirer this week reported the “incredible allegation” that Palin had an extramarital affair with an unnamed former “business partner” of her husband. Once the politician’s husband Todd learned of the purported affair, an Enquirer source claimed, he “quickly dissolved his friendship and his business associations with the guy.” So when the blogosphere discovered today (via an online court docket) that Scott Richter, a Palin associate, personally filed a sealing motion in Alaska Superior Court, well, conclusions were jumped to. Was Sarah Palin named as the other woman in a messy divorce action? Well, since Richter’s September 3 motion, a copy of which you’ll find below, was denied yesterday, his divorce filings remain open to the public. And a TSG review of the 98-page file shows that the Palins are only mentioned in Richter’s sealing request. According to the filing, Richter wanted the documents deemed confidential in a bid to cloak details about his home, workplace, and phone numbers because “reporters and news agencies” were using that information to contact him. Richter, a 39-year-old contractor, noted that he is “friends and land owners in a remote cabin” with the Palins and, as a result, journalists were intruding on the “cabin life and private life” of him and his 11-year-old son. The petition to dissolve the marriage was filed jointly last July by Richter and his ex-wife, who were not represented by lawyers. A judge granted the dissolution less than two months after the couple filed to end their marriage.
The Democrats aren’t investigating this, the National Enquirer is. You guys loved that publication about a month ago.
I don’t know… **Shayna** sure seems curious.
**Shayna** said it was tabloid crash. She’s aso not “the Democrats.”
I remember a few weeks ago when the righties couldn’t stop talking about John Edwards, and he wasn’t even running for anything. It’s going to be kind of hard for you guys to find a high horse now. I dismissed Edwards’ affair as irrelevant non-news, and I feel the same way about Palin’s personal life. I find any talk about her or family’s personal life to be an annoying distraction from far more pertinent questions and criticisms.
Again with the veiled personal insults. How convenient of you to skip right over the part where I said it was tabloid trash, just like the pregnancy rumor.
But whatever fits into your worldview, hon.
No personal insult intended. You used the word “interesting” twice in relation to the story. So, I inferred that you were curious. Apparently, I grossly misinterprented what you meant. My bad.
It’s possible to believe that something like this should be politically irrelevant but also privately harbor some prurient curiosity about it. I think most of us do about this kind of thing if we’re honest.
You’re right, that’s probably what **Shayna** meant.
Perhaps if I had gleefully said, “I can’t _wait_ to find out what juicy tidbits he’s trying to hide,” it would’ve been fair to allege that I enjoy the politics of personal destruction. Seeing as how I merely said it could be of “possible interest”, only after stating outright that I considered the rumor tabloid trash, it’s rather insulting that you responded as if I had said the former instead of the latter.
As it happens, it was rather uninteresting and a very valid reason to want to have the files sealed. Big whoop.
