Are all the burning questions that can be answered answered (as opposed to GD-type unresolvable questions)? Are we becoming too much of a social group? Am I neurotic for even noticing this? If I cross-posted this to GQ would that be trolling?
Although I would hate to think what it would say about this board as a whole if the BBQ Pit were the biggest collection of posts...

Frankly, Sue, I’d started to wonder along the same lines. I had thought about putting up a post encouraging posters to speculate when MPSIMS might eclipse GQ. They ARE closing. And I participate in both;…but I really do not want this to become a chat site.

I think the reason could be that in GQ a question is asked, and (hopefully) answered. It doesn’t really require 300 posts. If it can’t be answered, it usually ends up in GD. However, in MPSIMS, there is _always_ something mundane and pointless to add.

Well, I began as a GQ guy, and feel that I contributed to the creation of the GD section because of the length of many of those debates in GQ which were a big part of it. Since I’ve been around, the creation of GD split my participation in half, while my rare posts in MPSIMS began to gradually grow as i got to know the people here. For quite a while I had about a 50% MPSIMS, 35% GQ, and 13% GD participation. Now I am close to 85% MPSIMS because my questions have been answered, and the debating got dull with the small number of people who can field a debate with resorting to name calling, and fact creating.
If others are like me the growth rates of MPSIMS will increse faster than the GQ section, especially considering the conversational style of MPSIMS
My vote Nov. 21…anyone see the beauty of this date?

Another possible reason: If you take a look, there are several current MPSIMS threads that have a question in the OP. (And I don’t mean a trivia or “what’s your favorite movie?” type question, either.)
Perhaps some people are hesitant to post non-earth-shaking questions in GQ, thinking that their questions are “mundane” or “pointless” and thus belong in MPSIMS?

Oooh, sunbear, I hate to go down that road again. Suffice to say that I didn’t get anywhere with it, and ended up giving up. Couldn’t handle everybody being so angry with me. I did avoid the ceremony, though, partially because of the prayer and partially because I didn’t get to walk.

Another reason MPSIPMS moves faster than GQ is that just about anyone can contribute to a MPSIMS thread, but to post in a GQ thread, most people feel an obligation to be able to help answer the question.
