Traditional sexism is rooted in the idea that men can not see themselves as strong, capable, and necessary members of society if women fail to act subordinate to them. Just as soon as a woman has the audacity to act as freely and as fearlessly as a man, it’s taken as a threat, a rebuke of masculinity. To go back to the subject of this OP, is there any wonder why quotes like that get plastered on the walls? It’s a way to plant those seeds of insecurity into young women just as soon as their identities are forming. Gotta get them focused on conforming to the expectations of men early in life, because if you don’t, they’ll do crazy things like aspire to be President. ---

There is another thread in here that I started where I am being eviscerated by some Dopers who accuse me of making all of it up. I am 56. I have been carrying this around my entire life and yet obviously I would rather keep the person’s name and school district private then be banned immediately for naming him. Funny how the world works, isn’t it? ☹ ---

You said something factually wrong, and someone said “don’t listen to him” about that factually wrong thing. They weren’t saying that you were never abused. You said that children always know when they are being abused. But they don’t. One poster in particular was upset because he himself had also been abused. Not even all adults realize they were being abused until later: it can be lack of knowledge, denial, gaslighting, etc. That’s all. No one was saying you were not abused. And, in fact, if I ever fucking catch anyone doing that, I will lay into them like you wouldn’t believe. I promise. ---
