The good news is, you are feeling perfectly appropriate emotions. You ARE helpless. Tony needs other friends/family/support. We have a Tony… in our church. It was so lucky for him that he stumbled in one day (probably a decade ago by now). Now he has people that check in on him, and invite him out. And even a free lawyer for when he lashes out at strangers … AND invitations to dozens of potlucks --so he’s got access to more “hot dishes” and orange Jell-O than a normal person should (yeah, it’s a Lutheran church, how’d you know?). We invite him to any little get-together where he’ll get free food. It’s sweet-- he’ll bike across town in the snow just to pig out. We make extra, but he’s learned to only make one massive pile of food on his plate until everyone’s had firsts. I do hope Tony can find some sort of support group (ok, now I’m picturing one of Dr. Hartley’s group therapy sessions from “Newhart”…). ---

I had to work today and of course everyone wanted to get off early to start thier festivities so I had to get up 3 hours early so we could all go home early. There are several parties were I could go be with all of my friends who are married or at least have a date for the oparty but not me of course. All I want to do is go to sleep since I feel crappy anyway but there are firecrackers going off constantly and probably will be for many more hours and days. So to reiterate, I hate this day! almost as much as Valentines day. ---

Maybe I just watched _Mask_ too many times for my own good, but I had somehow formed the impression that biker communities are close-knit and exceptionally supportive of one another, especially on behalf of their friends who really need support the most. Are there not other people in your circle of biker friends who can be counted upon to step up and be the safety net Tony needs during whatever times you can’t? Are those teenagers who keep driving their truck into your ditch the kind of good-hearted people you might be able to bring into the circle? ---

I dunno if Glaswegian is any worse than the rest of them, but after almost two years here, I have to agree that Scottish accents in general are hell for comprehension. It’s just ridiculous. I’ll be on the train or something, listening to people talk to each other, and catch maybe one in half a dozen words. I can tell that a phone service job is not in my immediate future. I’d be spending too much time saying “I’m so sorry, I don’t understand what you’re saying, could you repeat that?” ---

Tony did it and I had no clue until I tried to make breakfast for Bill. OUTRAGE!!! My cats actually jumped on the counters and Spike got on the stove. TOTAL OUTRAGE!!! I’ve not seen Mask, but we are a community. Tony was a lone wolf, an outlier before he met me. I’ve brought him into the community and he has other friends. He just thinks they will drop him as soon as I leave. I have no plans to leave. If I did, Tony is still part of the community and will be cared for. Tony was just having one of his “moments”. Mental illness sucks. The pissing match I had with Tony is just a small part of how he deals with the world. Tony scares people and drives them away when he really wants friends. It just sucks and I was venting. I love the man. He has a good heart. If we were to go out for a ride during monsoon season and before leaving we discussed rainsuits and I still left mine home and it started to storm…wanna guess who would be wearing Tony’s rainsuit? If Tony only has enough money to buy milk (he drinks a couple of gallons a week because of his ulcer) or catfood for the strays…guess who gets fed first. This is not his fault and it sucks.
