You know, someone a little more cynical than myself might begin to think this whole thing was scripted. And that per my previous post, route #2 (quid pro quo) sure is looking like a good bet.

Isn’t interesting to note the anglo leaders, Bush, Blair, and Howard are all making the same claim that their country’s intelligence agency failed to properly inform them.
The buck stops at the CIA

I just woke up and logged on to check my email. The Yahoo! headline was “Bush Considers Iraq Uranium Issue Closed.”
I’m speechless.
If I were Bush I would too. I mean, he already knows what happened.
Well, I guess that settles it.
Let me speculate for a while here.
The CIA knows or strongly suspects that the Niger Uranium story is false and has known that for a year and has through channels told the NSC and the White House and the DoD that.
The White House writes the State of the Union Address which includes the allegation that Sadam is trying to buy uranium from Africa, and sends the whole thing over to the CIA for a fact check.
The CIA come back and says that it can’t pass the Niger allegation.
The White House come back and says “Well, the Brits have the same stuff and they aren’t questioning it. How about if we say that the Brits are telling us that Sadam is trying to do the Big Dirty with Niger? You can’t say that’s false. The British are telling us that. Come on, give me a break here. We got to give this thing to the President pretty soon so he can practice. If you don’t let him say that Sadam is getting the raw material for an A-bomb the President is going to be unhappy. It’s not a lie, is it? That’s what the Brits are saying, isn’t it? We don’t vouch for it, do we? We have a whole damned war here that we have been getting ready for 10 years now. If you don’t concur then it is going to screw every thing up. Come on, be a mensch. Make the President happy. Be a team player.”
To which the CID replies, “Well, if it means all that much to you, go ahead”
After which the White House starts screaming that it may, possibly have been a little iffy but the CIA approved it so it’s all the CIA’s fault. Closed issue, my foot!
