And Jackson will follow up Kong with..... Halo??

First, he’s only producing Halo, not directing. Second, he’s never done a Sci-Fi movie (ok, well, unless you count Bad Taste) so why would you be curious if he “sticks with” that genre? Third, even if he did decide to direct Halo or another Sci-Fi movie, considering his eclectic back-catalogue of films, why would you be curious if he “sticks with” just one genre from here on out? Forth, considering his eclectic back catalogue of good-to-great films, what do you mean “go all Michael Bay on us”? As in sticking with action blockbusters or continuing on with not so great movies?

Sixth, looking at his back catalogue of movies, which range from comedy/horror/zombie/aliens to intimate drama to epic fantasy to humorous mockumentary to demented puppet satire, I think his resume is already quite broad, and speaks of his interest in doing all kinds of different films.

Seventh, his next project, The Lovely Bones, has been announced for months and you even looked at IMDB yourself, and so should have seen that, so I don’t get your post at all. Anyway, you’re right, he can do whatever he wants, which is why his career will be wonderfully exciting to watch.

And I too hope he tackles The Hobbit, and soon, before Ian McKellan gets too old to play Gandalf, and before a massive volcano destroys Middle-Earth (the New Zealand scenery). I should never have watched that documentary about the volcanos of New Zealand. Now I fret that the whole country (or even just Wellington, which is very vulnerable) is going to be destroyed in the blink of an eye. Teach me to watch the Discovery Channel.

He hasn’t been officially announced, but buzz has him as the front runner. Depends on what happens with Hellboy 2.

Think how we feel in Wellington. Dozens of fault lines right through the middle of the city, averaging a major quake every hundred years or so … and we’re overdue.

40 hours of Halo comprises at least 35 hours of straight up combat and 4 hours of repetition. The storyline can be simplified without really losing anything.

The Halo story is pretty straightforward:

  1. Exposition: The Pillar of Autumn arrives. We learn who they are. The Master Chief takes Cortana, kicks a little Covenant ass, escapes to the inner surface. 10 minutes.

  2. Danger and Decision. The Master Chief kicks a little more Covenant ass, rounds up some Marines. The Warthog and the light bridge can be the “Cool moments” here. They learn the Captain’s captured. 20 minutes.

  3. Accomplishment of Preliminary Goal. They go to the Truth and Reconciliation and rescue the Captain. 20 minutes.

  4. Turning point and introduction of the Flood. The Master Chief is separated from Cortana and sent to find something, only to discover the Flood. He kicks some Flood ass. 20 minutes.

  5. Commencement of the final quest. The Master Chief meets 343 Guilty Spark, who brings him to “reactivate” Halo. 15 minutes.

  6. Twist. Just before they reactivate Halo, Cortana tells the Master Chief the truth. They commence the trip back to blow up the Pillar of Autumn. Toss in a Banshee ride here as a “Cool moment.” 15 minutes.

  7. Final battle. They fight their way into the Pillar of Autumn and blow it up, and Halo with it. 15 minutes.

There’s the Halo story in less than two hours.

Maybe RickJay. Still can’t help feeling that it’ll lose something in the translation…

Can you possibly direct me to a link with more details about this? If you have one?

Don’t forget Andy Serkis as Gollum. That’s a MUST. (And hopefully Hugo Weaving will pop up as Elrond)
Whoever’s trying to up the price on the distribution rights oughta be kicked repeatedly in the groin.

IIRC Sony has the distribution rights, while NL has the others.

Except that, of course, it could entirely fail to be great.

Funny thing is: video game movies shouldn’t have the bad track record they do. Sure, there’s often not much plot to the video game, but this is a great thing. It means the situation can be fleshed out, and characters created, without breaking or interrupting the idea. It honestly shouldn’t be that hard.

And at least one (Mortal Kombat) was actually quite good. B-movie good, but still good.

No, it couldn’t.

It most certainly could. PJ has set the bar pretty high… he could quite easily make a “Return of the Jedi” out of it.

Actors are good, but “Hobbit” is going to make or break based on direction and script. He did well before, but keep in mind the guys that did ID4 also did Godzilla.

Anything is possible, my friend

But will it end with an insane Warthog race against The Ticking Clock through an exploding world to the last remaining ship for a gripping escape? DAMN that was a rush first time through (and pretty well every time thereafter).

I think Peter ought to make a bio-pic about his distant cousin Andrew starring his other distant cousin Michael in the starring role. Maybe cousin Jesse could make a cameo.
