E-filed my federal last night, and sent my state out in the mail today (I’d e-file them, but all the places seem to charge for state e-file when the federal is free.) I’m looking to get almost $1400 back total, which makes me a happy hippo. I actually just got my W-2 yesterday, so I can easily say that this is the earliest I’ve ever had my taxes done by. For the life of me I don’t know why I always waited till late March/early April these past years.

Anyone else done? Or are the rest of you going to be spending a weekend with the pain monster?

I gots me a (beautiful) wifey to take care of those things. So no pain monster for me.
She also pays the bills.
My only responsibility is giving her all the money I earn.

I can live with that.

I have everything filled out except for how much my workplace reimbursed me for tuition last year. I’m sitting at $1,500 return right now, but that number may get significantly lower when I lose part of the Lifelong Learning Credit.

I can’t e-file until the 11th because of the Lifelong Learning Credit, so I’m taking my time with doing the math for e-filing.

I’ll have mine ready by June or July… I have filed extensions since I have more than 100 pages of forms to fill out. ☹

100 _pages_? That would be the time I drop them off at an accountant’s office and say “thanks!”

I just got my W-2s, so I can do mine this weekend. (Although I may wait until next.)

I still need a W-2 from my former employer, who paid me a bonus last year which was direct deposited to the same account where they had been depositing my paychecks. I may have trouble getting it because I’ve moved since I retired, and I don’t think my mail is being forwarded from my old address any more.

We’re still waiting for one W2… It becomes officially overdue tomorrow.

For the benefit of anyone else in the same situation, the IRS says:

**Topic 154 - Forms W-2 and Form 1099–R (What to Do if Not Received)**

If you do not receive your Form W-2, Form 1099-R, Form 1099-INT, or Form 1099-MISC by January 31st , or your information is incorrect, contact your employer/payer.

If you do not receive the missing or corrected form by February 15th from your employer/payer, you may call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 for assistance. You must provide your name, address (including zip code), phone number, Social Security Number, dates of employment, your employer/payer’s name, address (including zip code), and phone number. The IRS will contact the employer/payer for you and request the missing form. IRS will also send you a Form 4852 (PDF), Substitute for Form W-2 or Form 1099-R.

I got mine done this morning…the earliest I’ve ever been able to file, since I usually have to wait till early Feb. for all the forms. But they came very quickly this year. I also got a discount on the prep because the preparer and I happen to be instructors at the same college. Ya gotta love those employee/colleague discounts.

Did mine last weekend. Can’t efile because of a w-2 with Zero paid because of a health savings account.

BTW, my brokerage firm was granted an additional month to send out 1099 forms for certain accounts. This was to reduce the number of corrected 1099s which would have to be sent out later in the year.

So, if you don’t have your 1099 from a brokerage firm, there may be a good reason. Please don’t yell and scream at them and threaten lawsuits. \<smile\>

Finished mine up last night. I was pretty happy with the results. Last year, I ended up getting ~$3000 refunded (combined fed and state) due to itemizing and deducting a full year of mortgage interest on my new house. So I tweaked my W-4 last March, and this year I get back ~$500 from federal and owe the state a whopping $12.

Just got my return credited to my savings account. (Federal)

The state is gonna have to wait, cause they want money, so I am going to go on a trip to get the postmark on the very last day, and add a few days mailing delay to that. The money stays in my account earning interest until then.

So cool to post this in a “I finished my taxes” thread

:gloat: 🙂

I cannot do mine yet because my school does not release my tuition credit information until Feb. 21. Otherwise, I can assure you I’d be doing my taxes, because I need that return to be invested and making me money for as long as possible before tuition is due again.

Mine are done. I’m getting about $1600 refunded from the combination of state and federal. I’ve also been typing my fingers off working on W-2s and 1099-MISCs.

First thing I’m going to buy myself after I pay off a few bills is a passport. I have somewhere I need to go in a few months.

I e-filed two weeks ago, and my return was deposited into my savings early this week. I love e-filing, it is so much easier than sending everything in!

Unfortunately this was the first year I had to actually pay taxes, and did not earn too little to have to pay anything. It was only $26, fortunately. With how little I earn (college student) I’m rather surprised they took anything.
