And now for my good deed for the day, may I present Sound of Silence by...Disturbed

Just found this vid of David Draiman talking about how this cover came about. The first part is about the band recording a marijuana song, but afterward Draiman talks about The Sound of Silence. I’m impressed by his respect for the song:

I don’t like it. If it were any more overproduced it would be t-pain with guitars.

Your link goes to a song by someone named Keith Green, Mister Rik. I went to Youtube and found the interview I think you meant to post. It’s interesting to hear how the song came about. It’s also interesting to see David Draiman in the way he probably is offstage, which is friendly, talkative, sensitive, and with a pretty good sense of humor. Anyway, here’s the link I found.

Interesting. The drummer Mike Wengren went to my grammar school (three or four years ahead of me–his sister was in my class) and I was kind of wondering if it was his suggestion, as that song was a favorite of our 8th grade teacher and she taught it alongside Robert Frost’s “Road Not Taken” in English during the poetry section. Now, the story just says it Mike’s suggestion and he grew up with Simon and Garfunkel in the family, but I wonder if Mrs. Moyzsis had anything to do with it…

Was she competing for Least Graceful Pole Dancer Ever? Jeebus.

It’s surprising how many people on this board have personal connections to so many of the things that come up on this board. It sure sounds to me like Mrs. Moyzsis had something to do with it.

There’s a two-part Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction interview with David Draiman on Youtube that I thought was interesting. I’ve been a fan of Disturbed for many years but never really tried to find out much about Draiman himself, and it turns out he’s really a pretty cool guy with quite an interesting background too. Administrator of three different nursing facilities including one that took care of patients immediately post-op, and accepted into 5 or 6 law schools before deciding he didn’t want to spend his life telling lies in an effort to get guilty people acquitted. I’m posting links to Part 1 and Part 2 should anyone else like to watch them.

Part 1

Part 2

That was really good, thanks.

I’m going to have to share it with my wife, who’s a huge S&G fan.

Oops! Thanks for catching that. And yeah, you found the one I meant to post

I was driving home this afternoon and heard this on the radio. Wow. Just wow.

Came in and told Suburban Plankton and he mentioned this thread. Don’t know how I missed it.

Late to the party as always, but I’ve just listened to both the studio and the live (Conan O’Brien) song twenty times in a row. Not stopping. Holy flurking schnitt, the singer knocks it out of the park. If anyone knows any other good songs by this band please let me know. I’d just written them off as a shitty nu metal band before.

Very good cover. I like the updated sound and that he still stayed true to the original.

That was…incredibly powerful. Thanks for sharing (off to itunes I go).

Its okay.
