OK, a legitimate stab at the OP: The better the intellect, the firmer, more accurate vision it has of reality, the greater shock, horror, and recoil at contemplating said reality, the greater the need to alter one’s personal reality, either thru neuro-pharmaceuticals, spiritual quests, or indiscriminate sex, or all of the above.
Quadgop, you are a philosopher!
It’s all those symposiums[sup]1[/sup] they had to attend.
[sup]1[/sup] Symposium means “drinking party” in Greek.
You and me both, BaldTaco
I’ve always believed that those prophets in the Old Testament who claimed to have talked to God were schizophrenics suffering from delusions. Perhaps they were inebriated.
Story of my life, but, as I am a dumbshit, intellect had nothing to do with it.
I have been fearing that the greater effectiveness of antipsychotic drugs will have a detrimental effect on society’s growth, but that brings us into GD territory.
I am so confused. This thread has been all over the map; can someone please tie the knots? Are we talking about hallucinating drunken Aussies’ penchant for silly city names?
It may be worth highlighting BaldTaco’s earlier reference to ergot posioning. Part of the effect of ergot and ergot-related drugs is to increase the brain’s sensitivity to dopamine. This can, among other things, induce schizophrenia-like symptoms.
Some historians believe that the true cause of the Salem witch trials was not mass hysteria or sexual repression or anything like that, but rather ergot posioning.
