. . .and that's why God created commas.

Apostrophes, OTOH, are a tool of Satan and must be destroyed.

:dubious:

I don’t know. I don’t think that was the best way to handle it. She did nothing she needed to be forgiven for. How 'bout just saying “That’s just a figure of speach*” and moving on?
*“obviously you fucking git” But she should probably not say that part out loud.

Cervaise I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you because I am so jealous I didn’t think of that first!!!

Arrrrggg!!! I was going to post that some other symbol was the work of Satan. Not only did you beat me to it, you linked to a cool cartoon too. Argg!!

Man, I’m just two steps behind everyone today!

Now class, that was an example of a ‘pun’.
This has been called the lowest form of wit.

In addition, Mr. Humourless, your music teacher, will tell you that the inventor is **in fact ** known as ‘Comma, comma, comma, comma, comma, Chameleon’.
The composer was quite young when he wrote this - just a boy really.

Now here is another musical pun. How does Alfred tell his employer that the evening meal is ready?

Dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner, Batman!

And I don’t want to hear any more religious objections. For God’s sake!

“The pun is a form of wit to which wise men stoop and fools aspire.”

I don’t think she apologized because she thought she’d done wrong, I think she did to end the issue without a debate. If she’d taken the “it’s just a figure of speech, you f*cking git,” she may have opened the floodgates to more conversation about church and state etc.
I thought she dismissed it very well.

::rolling my eye’s::

Apo’strophe’s are a tool of 'Satan.

And I thought you were 'smart.

I, for one, welcome our new comma overlords…

Ahem.

Well, you knew someone had to say it!

Not that I’m not applauding her for moving of. Quite the right thing to do. Just thinking that by apologizing she leaves other in the class with the impression that she did something wrong. Which I think is the wrong impression.

(And of course I was not suggesting she include the “git” comment in her actual class commentary :D)

As the professor, she would need to toe the line.

It would have been a good idea for someone else in the class to point out that it is “freedom OF religion”, not “freedom FROM religion” that we are guaranteed.

Although you’d have to be careful to not start a flamewar in the classroom, someone should have at least pointed out the absurdity of the student’s comment.

No, more like:

“God has no place in the School System! Just like thought has no place in organized religion!”
