_Robin Hood_!

Errol Flynn, not Kevin Costner.

Basil Poulidoris’ soundtrack for _Conan the Barbarian_ is much better than the movie. I listen to the CD more often than I watch the DVD.

Ennio Morricone’s soundtracks are always great. At the moment, my favorites are _Fistful of Dollars_ and _Two Mules for Sister Sara_. A few years ago, I saw a “greatest hits” CD in a store. I really regret not buying it.

Jerry Goldsmith’s score for _Patton_.

> Nobody has mentioned _Gladiator_ yet? One of my faves. Such range, from the softest of ethnic sounds to the most powerful military marches and battle themes. Zimmer and Gerard were the perfect choices for this one.

I was a little surprised, myself, to see it took so long for this mention. It’s one of my all-time favorites, and probably makes me enjoy the movie more than it deserves (probably helps that I was a Gerrard/DcD fan beforehand).

Around the same time I was raving about the _Gladiator_ soundtrack, I also watched _Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon_; Yo Yo Ma’s celling (I totally just made that word up) had me in fits of eargasm throughout that entire picture (score by Tan Dun). [Listen on YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n16h16jtGw&feature=channel)

Since I’ve hopped across the ocean, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Japan’s Yoko Kanno, who (supposedly) took a bus tour of the United States’ jazz bars as research for her work on the TV Series _Cowboy Bebop_ – some of the best jazz to be written into any soundtrack, anywhere ([YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8wWa3O9cUo) and [The iconic opening on YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6zDfxZ4NcE&feature=PlayList&p=6204C260AC93880C&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=50)). Her work for the TV series _Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex_ is equally fantastic and introduced me to Origa, a wonderful vocalist in her own right. [Season 2 Opening song (with Origa)](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zU6LASlH25M&feature=PlayList&p=A4820C8130F1F652&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=18) and [A splendid orchestral piece with piano](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJYeVwBZtBQ&feature=PlayList&p=A4820C8130F1F652&index=30)

Clint Mansell is also one of my favorites – _Requiem for a Dream_ sold me completely ([YouTube, in case you’ve been dead for the past decade](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKLpJtvzlEI)), and _The Fountain_ just solidified his position as a complete badass in my book (and the Kronos Quartet/Mogwai are no slouches either). Apologies if this is a double or triple post… but I wrote this twice and it never appeared.

**A Bridge Too Far**

**A Fistful of Dollars**
**A Few Dollars More**

But the best of all time goes to:

**The Good, The Bad and The Ugly**. Fantastic. I have it on my iPod and I often go to sleep with it playing. I also play it in my car on occasion. It is without a doubt the best score I’ve ever heard.

I know I’ve mentioned GBU on these boards before, but it is a great movie from so many points of view. Pretty impressive for a low budget western.
