**stuffinb** , I don’t know where you’re planning on using it, but if I see that whole thing showing up in a sig somewhere, there’s going to be some serious ass whomping to be had. But anyway, I don’t see how anyone is that surprised at what he’s done during his reign of power. I mean, just look through history at some of the other famous Jesses. Jesse James, Jesse Jackson, um…Jesse’s girl. He was in good company. ---

Hey, Coldie, you ready for this? [This](http://www.issues2000.org/Senate/Jesse_Helms.htm) is from [http://www.issues2000.org](http://www.issues2000.org) , a relatively non-partisan site which tracks American politicians’ stances on the issues. As you can see, he has some positions which strike even me as reasonable. Others… do not. This is the kinder, gentler Jesse we’ve known these past two terms or so, since he nearly lost the '90 election. He hasn’t always been that obnoxious. He was once far worse. His name has become virtually synonymous with the word “[asshole](http://www.google.com/search?q=helms+asshole&hl=en&safe=off).” When this fellow dies, and it will not pain me one bit if that were to happen [snapping fingers] this minute, they are going to have to make his grave site out of porcelain, with a drain. ---

I’ve heard it said that Helms was inadvertently responsible for pushing the Civil Rights Act through in the 60s. Apparently he added the clause prohibiting gender discrimination in the belief that the bill wouldn’t make it out of the Senate if it gave women more rights. ---

Strom Jr. is one of FOUR kids he had in rapid succession with his second wife, who was 22 when he married her. She was fresh from her reign as Miss South Carolina at the time. And, of course, until a year or two ago, Strom Sr. still thought he was a swinger and would routinely embrace girls he saw in passing, pat them on the ass, etc. :eek: ---
