Ok, **andrewdt85** , you’ve asked how many threads you should start in order not to get piled on. Personally, i’m not sure that there’s a correct answer, but it certainly seems to me that you could benefit from starting fewer threads of your own, and spending more time joining in other people’s conversations. Your total post count, as of 9.50pm Eastern here in the US, is 1,039. And the total number of threads you have started is 218. Contrast this ratio with these figures: **mhendo** (me) Total posts: 7,455 Threads started: 198 **FinnAgain** Total posts: 4,841 Threads started: 50 **furt** Total posts: 4,386 Threads started: 150 **kidchameleon** Total posts: 1,357 Threads started: 13 **El\_Kabong** Total posts: 3,906 Threads started: 104 **Lute Skywatcher** Total posts: 13,278 Threads started: 447 **Sal Ammoniac** Total posts: 525 Threads started: 32 **Atticus Finch** Total posts: 1,555 Threads started: 33 **The Gaspode** Total posts: 3,247 Threads started: 243 **Agent Foxtrot** Total posts: 806 Threads started: 152 Do you notice a pattern here, and how it contrasts with your own posting habits? The only person in this list who comes close your number of threads started as a percentage of total posts is **Agent Foxtrot** , and he’s spread his threads out over the past 2+ years. Of the rest of the people in the list, no-one has a threads/posts ratio above 1/10, and most are under 1/20. I’m not saying that the people in this list are necessarily exemplars of how to post on the SDMB. I just chose them randomly from people who have posted in this thread. But i’m willling to bet that their posting and thread-starting habits are rather typical of medium- to long-term Dopers. I won’t offer any more advice; i’ll leave you to take whatever you feel might be useful from this post. ---
