Random thoughts about Kevin Sorbo’s new show: [ul]- It doesn’t suck as much as it could. - They are scraping the bottom of Roddenberry’s reject pile, but the writers can fix anything–they even made Voyager watchable. - The cast is okay, but the blonde guy from MIB could really date this show if it lasts long enough to hit reruns. “We rule!”–BLEAH! - The blonde lady has about the nicest butt around. Let’s make sure she stays in tight leather. - The special effects are about 1995 Babylon 5 level, but could be worse. - Sorbo has a way with light action. Could be the Errol Flynn of the Noughties. Like Tom Sellack was the Errol Flynn of the Eighties. :rolleyes: - The whole thing–the anachronistic kid, Kevin Sorbo, slightly cheesy special effects–has a certain Sam Raimi quality. I’m waiting for Bruce Campbell to show up.[/ul] ---

I think the rat-faced bad guy is corny. Actually, he reminds me of Shredder, from TMNT. A little off-topic, (not only this show, just sci-fi in general), but did you ever notice that no matter where in the galaxy you are, the female of any species you come across will have huge breasts…they don’t even have to be a mammal. The first half-hour of the first episode was atrocious: acting, writing, costumes, makeup, and special effects were all awful. I almost switched the TV off. The second half of the first episode and the second episode were considerably better on most counts. Then again, perhaps I was just mesmerized by the appearance of Lisa Ryder (as Beka Valentine) at about the time things started looking up. The special effects are ridiculously uneven. A lot of them actually look pretty good, but some of them look like low-budget Saturday-morning cartoons. And what’s up with Trance’s tail? The Cowardly Lion had a more believable tail in 1939. Beka’s tail, on the other hand, **is** wondrous to behold. I’m trying to view it as a return to the classic space operas of yore–“Trance Gemini?” Since nobody seems to write science fiction in the classic manner except the corpse of L Ron Hubbard (who couldn’t write when he was alive) I take it where I can. As for Ms Ryder, I thought she looked familiar: George’s “snow bunny” on “The Newsroom!” Which would make “The Newsroom” truly the greatest TV show of all time. As if it weren’t already. ---

I enjoyed it. My varied reactions to it: When I first heard about it I thought ‘Hey, sounds interesting…’ When I found out Kevin Sorbo was in it ‘Oh dear…that’s worrying’ When I noticed it in the TV scedule ‘Well, nothing better’s on (and yikes does that speak badly for the timeslot)’ After I watched it. ‘Hey, that was pretty fun.’ I rather liked that that insectoid alien was named ‘Refractions of Dawn’…really unusual names are so…unusual. 🙂 ---

Am I the only one that thought that the human dude comparing the captain guy (Kevin Sorbo) to a greek god was so very wrong? Sure that’s what he’s famous for but why do they have to go and remind me of Hercules like that? Kitty ---

All of you are getting it all wrong… the hot chick of the show is the artificial intelligence of the ship. Man, I hope there’s an episode where she jumps out of that fuzzy hologram display and does… stuff… ---

It’s a strange show. Not bad, just…strange. Horribly cheesy looking aliens–they’re going to have to work on that. Bad uniforms, too, like something out of Battlestar Galactica. But some of the small touches were nice. I like it that well after the Federation era the space-faring races have finally realized that seatbelts and harnesses are a good thing on ships. As for Gerentex (rat boy), at least he’s not going to be a regular character. What a terrible looking alien. Still, at least it gives us an idea of what Mets fans will evolve into. 😃 I wonder if we’re going to have Nietzsche quotes every week… ---

Hey, I found it enjoyable. Sure, the costumes need work (reminds me too much of kids weekday TV), but at least it’s amusing. And I like how things are so grungy (well, for a Roddenberry creation). And I like the story. But the second that Kevin Sorbo is put on trial by an omnipotent being (probably named “T” or something), I’m gonna change the channel… “I pity th’ foo’! Though that babe’s got a nice ass…” “Hey… this is MY ship…” “Shu’up! C’mere, bitch…” ---
