He got the diagnosis in March 2010, so he survived barely eighteen months. That seems really quick, but perhaps it was more advanced. ---

Yeah, I liked the Spartacus series a good bit. For some reason it’s always seemed so “weird” to me when someone so young and healthy dies. Just shows that actuarial tables aside, for any individual person life really is a crap shoot no matter what we do. Andy Whitfield was in better shape than I’ve ever been in my entire life and he was almost 20 years younger than me but he’s dead and I’m still going… ---

Really sorry to hear of this. I read in a news article that the producers knew of his illness, thus they had the “pre-quel” this last season to be able to write him out and give him time to heal. I thought that was actually pretty classy of them to move around the entire production schedule to accomodate his treatment. ---

Also IIRC correctly it was announced a while ago that someone else would take his place for season three. ---

Yes, they’ve hired Liam McIntyre, another Australian actor, to take over the role. Supposedly, this was done with Andy Whitfield’s blessing. ---

Really bummed to hear this. My husband and I really got into watching Spartacus, and I have to confess I had a little crush on the guy. Wish we could have gotten to see him have a long successful career. ---

We started watching the series on Netflix simultaneous with finding out he had cancer. So sad to be stricken so young. ---
