Angel 11/06/03 S.5x06 (spoilers)

El diablo robotico translates to “the robotic devil.” I think it’s entirely reasonable that the devil would make a devil robot.

I liked it. It’s not one of my favorites, but definitely the most Angel-y of the season. I wish we had gotten this for the third episode, and no “Just Rewards” or “Life of the Party,” much as I love Lorne. I am looking forward to seeing the mindwipe unravel.

I favored this episode especially because it looked like Angel. Cool car, barely a ray of sunshine in the whole thing, and outdoor locations with fighting. I’m sick of being inside the new Wolfram and Hart mall lobby, all the offices look the same inside except for Lorne’s. I miss the Hyperion.

I guess I misunderstood what happened with Connor- I though he’d actually gone off the that family years ago and none of the events that happened last season actually happened, but just that they were wiped from memory.

Otherwise, everyone gets the memory dump, the city would have to have been rebuilt (as well as all other global after-shock effects), Wesley’s neck has to get un-slashed, and Connor gets shoved into a family a’la Dawn. The upside is that Lilah never gets killed.

By my, it would seem to be mistaken, understanding, W&H made it so that after Connor was born he went to live with that family and all the stuff from his kidnapping to his return, the Beast and all that jazz. So, instead of a memory-wipe, those event never actually even happened.

Well, that’s the question, isn’t it? What exactly happened to Connor and his place in the events of the last two seasons? What do the members of the fang gang remember and what if any false memories have been built to explain the events of the previous seasons? We saw perhaps the first tear in the tissue of lies in this ep, with Angel’s mention of the “father kills the son” prophecy.

They haven’t gotten specific about it, thinksnow, but I’m pretty sure it was just a memory-altering spell, not a reality-altering spell. Altering reality on that scale tends to not last very long: remember Jonathan the Action Hero from Buffy’s fourth season? Whereas memory altering spells, like Dawn’s, or the one protecting Ben/Glory, seem to be mostly permanent. Besides, if they altered everything about Connor going back to the moment of his birth, he’d be an infant. He’s only a teenager because he spent most of his life in a hell dimension. Plus, Angel still remembers what happened, Lilah and Devlin both seem to still be dead, and I’m pretty sure some of the other MoGs have referenced Jasmine in previous episodes this season, although I could be wrong about that.

After Wes healed up, didn’t he have an ugly scar across his neck? If it’s a memory wipe, wouldn’t he wonder “now how the heck did that happen? Shaving accident? Strange that I don’t remember…”

So I been thinking that it was a reality shift.

Lilah was “dead/ghost/undead Lilah” until the deal was in place and reality/memories shifted. Now she’s just “absent Lilah” (waaaah! want Lilah!) So once she’s done the movie she’s working on, maybe she’ll come back and we’ll get a little more info on her state of deadness.

Or maybe someone will figure out what happened which will break the spell and reality will switch back again to dark and post- near-apocolyptic (and more interesting than plain old MotW eps). Ouch! Reality whiplash!

Eh. I thought it was a sub-par episode, but I am glad that some of the other viewers liked it better than I did. Also, I like how they brought up the Shanshu prophesy.

I don’t think its a reality shift becuase then there would not have been The Beast or Jasmine – in which case Angel would not be the CEO of Wolfram and Hart. To me, a memory change seems like a better explanation.

Wes probably remembers getting his scar but if he tried to think about what he was doing at the time (ie kidnaping Connor) the spell would probably cloud his mind and distract him from what he was trying to remember.

I’m not the most observant viewer in the world, but Wes doesn’t actually have a scar anymore, does he? I could be wrong: I managed to watch the entire season premiere without even noticing Gunn had hair now.

Anyway, if he doesn’t, W&H might have magically disappeared it so as not to screw up the false memories. Alternatively, if he does have a scar, he might remember getting it under different circumstances. Like, “Hey, remember when that zombie cop shot me in the gut and slit my throat? Boy, that was a close one, wasn’t it?”

Good point, it’s not like memory clouding hasn’t happened to the poor man before. Like in the S2 episode on TNT tonight the shroud of whoever

" I need to warn Angel… Your hair, it’s blond!"

" You need to warn Angel about my hair?"

" I noticed it right away."

But we also know that memory spells don’t work out so well in the Buffy or Angelverse, so I wouldn’t be surprised if whiny Connor comes back like Joss indicated he’d like him to do (interview in August).

I liked last week’s episode for the record. I wonder if it’s evenly split so people who liked last don’t like this week’s and vise vera. Anyone love or hate both?

I loved this week, but was so-so on last week’s.

Also, I may be all alone on this, but I really liked Connor, and can’t wait for them to bring him back.
