**{{{{{{Taters}}}}}}** Sorry you feel bad, **Drae**. I join the chorus of wanting to hear secondhand, but you spend the weekend being good to your butt. A happy butt is important. Our internet went out last night. Actually, our entire FIOS service went out so we lost internet _and_ phone. I’m just glad I was still up to notice so I could report it and have it fixed before I got up this morning. I _hate_ not being able to waste time on the internet while I drink my first cuppa in the morning. I’m just doing a drive-by because I’ve got to get some work done before Papa T. comes home and we go play hooky for the rest of the day by donating some of our money to one of the Delaware casinos. Actually, _I_ do the donating; _he_ usually wins enough to stay ahead of my losing and we come home breaking even. Sometimes, very _very_ rarely, I’m the one who does the winning. But I play cheap slots cheaply, so I can make my losing go slowly so hopefully his winning exceeds it. If we’re pronouncing places phonetically, I guess that means I live in the great state of Murrlin, just down the road from the big city of Bulmer. And now driving on past and back to work. Happy TGIF, everyone! ---

**Tigs** you just reminded me of some big news I forgot to tell everybody. I mean, since the only reason anybody hangs out here is to hear the minutiae of my life, I need to share stuff. They put up a cell tower a half mile down the road from the swampcave! That means I can use my cell phone inside my house now. I use to have to walk out to the pool area before I could get signal. WOO HOO! See, when the local cable company started offering a package for cable, phone and high speed internet, I thought, jake, cause the price for the total package was less than what I’m paying for cable, dsl and phone. However, if the power or cable went out, that meant no internet, no cable and no phone. My reasoning is, if the power is out, that means their’s sump’n bad like ick weather goin’ on and I might have a need of a phone. Since before the new cell tower I didn’t get a cell signal inside da cave, I decided I was better off with what I have. Now that I can actually use my cell phone in doors, I just might have to reconsider it. Those I know who have cable/phone/high speed internet all rolled into one seem to really like it. See, it only takes the slightest mention of sump’n to set me off. Let that be a lesson to all of you. 😃 ---

I finally broke down and got an appointment for a mammogram. Surprisingly enough, they offer Saturday appointments and I have an appointment at 1:50 tomorrow afternoon. How’s that for speed and service? I got to speak to my mother briefly, but then my cell phone started ringing. The deal with my mother is that they’re not 100% positive that the cancer has entered her bloodstream. They drew a bunch of blood and will run tests on it. Her oncologist feels, however, since the breast cancer had spread to two of her nodes that chances are strong it’s in her bloodstream. She has to undergo six weeks of radiation treatment every single day, then will have to take a pill for five years after that. They really wanted her to do radiation, chemo and the pill, but she has to work. Her doctor conceded the fact that there would be no way she could work and do chemo. Needless to say, she’s feeling pretty down. Her surgeon told her the cancer was all gone, and now this doctor says differently. She told me she feels like giving up, which I told her she can’t do. She also had to be fitted for a special sleeve for her arm because she has lymphodema as well. This was not going well at first because they told her neither her insurance nor Medicare would cover it. She told them to stop right then and there because she couldn’t afford it. The one piece of good news is that the doctors office was able to work with one or both of her insurances to get the sleeve covered. At any rate, I have to call her back and find out more. ---

Not true-I also counselled her to stay at home. Hell, she could just make up a story about the main characters, and I’d be happy! I broke my coccyx giving birth to child #2-it ain’t fun. Sorry, **Taters** to hear your latest news. I am off to run errands-I hate errands. Who invented them? They should be forced to run them forever… Work this weekend. Next week is crazy busy-I am on campus for two days + work+other work+kid stuff. I need a clone. ---

But cold and damp and excessive drama can’t be good for broken bones, so hope you feel better soon. I am not a camper. I lived for one year in a tin-roof shotgun shack with no electricity and an outhouse and that was my camping quota for life. I’m with \*\*VBob’s \*\* wife, roughing it is a hotel with no room service and sheets with a threadcount under 300. 😃 I’m feeling much better today, physically. I hope this is a good sign. I had to go to the dentist last night for a filling, and it wasn’t until I had the shot and my heart started racing and my hands started shaking that it occured to me that perhaps I should have rescheduled the appointment. Luckily, nothing bad happened, and I don’t need a crown on that tooth, yay! I went home and collapsed into bed, then I woke up around 8ish with a coughing fit. Once I was awake enough, I went and got my inhaler. It has whistle-thingy on it, so you can tell if you’re getting the medication. It usually sounds like a freight train, but this time, all I heard was a pathetic [sub]sqeee[/sub], but it sounded much better on the second inhalation. Sheesh! Far too much drama for one day. But the alarm woke me up with “Brand New Day,” and I feel much better. I even put on makeup this morning! ---

Really, I’m touched. 🙂 And believe me, Roomie has instructions to pass on _any_ dirt she might pick up this weekend. That’s dirt of the metaphorical variety, as I’d prefer she get rid of any _other_ dirt before re-entering the house. I, on the other hand, will be face-down on the couch (which Roomie will move for me so I don’t have my neck bent at a weird angle) watching television. The current plan is to use my Border’s gift card and personal shopping day to buy myself a copy of the fifth season of _Smallville_ for about twelve bucks, which I will then watch until I pass out, lather, rinse, repeat as necessary all weekend. It’s not like the show takes much brain power, so me and Captain Percocet will do just fine. ---

All of the talk about camping has brought back the only camping memory I actually have, for those of you who don’t know I have almost no recollection of my childhood up to around my first year of high school except for a vague idea of what my life was like and a handfull of specific events spread around, this camping trip is one of those events. It has stuck with me because it was so traumatic that I have never quite been able to shake it off. I have a feeling that this trip is the main reason that I have never really been outdoorsy. When I was somewhere in the range of 6-8 years old my father took my brother and I camping along with one of his old friends. And this was real camping, out in the woods in a tent, no fancy shmancy RV or pop-camper for us no-sir. Several days were spent cooking around a camp fire or on the portable gas grill that my father bought specifically for this trip (ok, so maybe it wasn’t entirely ‘real’ camping), doing various other camping type things. Towards the end of the trip my father decided to get us some popcorn for a treat so he jumps into the truck and drives to the nearest convinience store, which was quite a distance and he was gone for a fair amount of time. When he finally returned he pulls the popcorn out and starts up the grill only to discover that he had absentmindedly bought a pack of microwave popcorn instead of stove top. Since the store was so far away and it was late by that point he couldn’t go back to rectify his error and we never got our popcorn on the trip. I have never quite recovered from that. ---

(dunno where that came from, as he was born and lived most of his life in the city.) I’m home from work. \*\*FCD \*\* has left for the boat. There are a coupla guys doing HVAC stuff. The new furnace is in place, and the old one is sitting in the middle of my studio. The rinky old Amana AC unit is removed and the monster new Trane AC is in place. Yay! I’ve emptied the dishwasher and I’ve run some vinegar water thru the Mr Coffee that we use to make tea. Then I ran some plain water, and I’ll do another plain water before finally making a batch of tea for my sweetie. I need to gather the household trash and make a run to the convenience center either this afternoon or tomorrow after I get home from class. Have I ever mentioned that I have never been camping? At least not sleeping-on-the-ground camping. I have spent many a night at anchor on our various boats over the years, but since said boats have always had bunks, galleys (that’s a kitchen) and heads (that’s a bathroom) plus battery powered lights, well, it’s hardly the same thing. And I agree about the hotel-without-amenities being roughing it. I don’t rough it. I deserve amenities, dammit!! ---

The last time I did anything resembling camping was in 1996 - Another group to which I belong had been annually renting out the Ashokan Field Campus outside of Kingston NY - segregated (along gender lines) bunk houses; indoor plumbing; lovely scenery; and ALL the stars at night - It was breathtaking to me - I usually can only see half a dozen or so constellations clearing, more if I squint and concentrate; but up there, with no ambient lighting from local clusters of civilization to get in the way, I saw them all - the most exciting to me was that I was able to identify Draco! (it takes so little some times :D) ---
