I am watching the 2018 computer animated _Grinch_, and it doesn’t seem to be a remake of either the original Chuck Jones cartoon or the Jim Carrey live action movie.

The songs (for example ‘You’re a mean one Mr Grinch’ and ‘Welcome Christmas’ ) were composed for the 1966 cartoon movie, are used in all three movies, but are not from the source material, which is a story book, so the 2000 and 2018 movies definitely owe something to the 1966 version, if not to each other.

BTW I’m sorry if my comment upthread was in any way contributory to your decision to watch the 2018 Grinch movie. It’s not very good.

> Adaptation/ remake of the 1971 live action film, incorporating various elements from the film that weren’t in the original book.

A year or two ago I caught a few minutes of this while channel-flipping. I had assumed it was just a regular episode of the TV show that was parodying scenes from the 1971 film; I didn’t realize it was a full-length adaptation. I’m fine with admitting this as a remake despite the inclusion of extra characters and scenes, since plenty of other (non-animated) remakes also do this. It’s not like I’m asking only for word-for-word, shot-for-shot reproductions of the source material.

Family Guy had a clip of Brokeback Mountain from the point of view of the horses, but it was just one of their cutaways.

> In 1971 there was an animated short film of [A Christmas Carol](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Christmas_Carol_(TV_special)). I’m not sure it would count as a literal remake, but Alistair Sim and Michael Hordem reprised their roles as Scrooge and Marley from the 1951 film.

It was produced by Chuck Jones and directed by Richard Williams (_Who Framed Roger Rabbit_). They based their animation style on period illustrations.
