I really wasn’t sure if this was a fit for P&E because of Bryant’s background and activism. Either way, I feel bad for her for having such a toxic and unpleasant person for a grandmother and having to arrange a wedding around her. If it stays in the Pit, then insert colorful profanity aimed at Anita. ---

You always hope that when someone is faced with the reality of a loved one being gay that they will realize how much it doesn’t matter (I was pleasantly surprised by how well my mom took my youngest son coming out). Bryant’s identity at this point is probably too tied to anti-LGBTQ to allow her to accept her granddaughter. ---

I remember a political cartoon that came out during Bryant’s diatribe (don’t remember the artist). It showed her chasing a pair of gay men while brandishing a whip and a chair, like a lion tamer. The gay men were sticking their tongues out at her while holding up signs that read “Anita, you’re sick sick sick!” and “Lynch Anita from an orange tree!” ---

I’m also surprised she’s still alive. When I read the thread title I thought, “too bad Anita isn’t around to see this.” I hope the wedding is lovely and that grandma sits at home stewing in her own vitriolic juices. (Actually a change of heart would be better, but after reading the article it doesn’t sound like that’s likely.) ---

I vaguely remember her Playboy interview where, when asked about some logical fallacy which in my faded memory was “why do you believe God would condemn African unbaptized innocent babies to hell?”, her answer was, “I try not to intellectualize these things too much.” ---
