Here is a story of another New Yorker who recently broke her wrist: Like **Annie Xmas** , she is a wonderful woman, and normally quite sane. A few weeks ago, she was walking home after having this sudden urge for BBQ potato chips and slipped on the one piece of ice remaining in her Chelsea neighborhood, fell and broke her wrist on the curb (nasty friends suggested the ice she slipped on had fallen out of her glass of scotch, but that is another story.) So she gets the cast and finally, last Friday, she trudges through the newly fallen snow back to the doctor’s office to have the cast removed. Now mind you, she had never broken a bone in her body in her life, so she had no idea what was in store. Sitting patiently in the doctor’s office, when suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she hears a loud sound, sees a band saw coming towards her arm and she freaked out - I mean, she screamed louder than she has screamed in her life - panicking people in the waiting room and even out into the hallway of the building! Her arm flies up, knocking band saw out of doctor’s hand, onto the floor and she was still screaming. Finally, the doctor calms her down, and says to the intern in the room, “Yes, this is why you should ALWAYS let your patient know what you are doing before you start to do anything.” The doctor apologized profusely several times, and my friend finally calmed down. Nobody had told her you have to cut off a cast with a real saw - she just assumed there was a little can opener or something. My best wishes for you **Annie** , and hopefully you too will be getting yours removed soon, albeit with less drama. ---

Update: I saw the doctor yesterday. The wrist is healing, but I have to wear this enormous cast for two more weeks to keep my elbow immobile. The I should be getting a smaller cast. Thanks again to everyone! ---

Medical update: The big honking cast, who I called Honker, is gone. I now have a cast going from my finers that stops about three inches above my elbow. The cast is PURPLE, and it matches my elbow, 25 days after the accident!It is marvelous to be able to move that elbow! This one stays on for anbout 18 days,aand I shold be healed. I appreciate all the posts, emails, cards, and espcially the Amazon gift certificate which have made me feel so much better during my recovery. ---
