The ill-fated [Gavle Goat](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%A4vle_goat) has failed to survive to see Christmas this year. I knew something was up when the link to the webcam wasn’t working. It looks like it got burned down a week ago on the 13th. Is is wrong that I think the unofficial tradition of attempted arson is kind of awesome? It’s like a giant metaphor for all the kids trying their best to be good until Christmas in the face of temptation. Sweet, giant, flammable temptation. ---

A couple of years ago they sprayed fire retardant chemicals on it. ---

They do it every year, but it doesn’t work. There are way too many many nutcases around who cheer whenever the goat burns and I just can’t comprehend why. If someone, in this case the shop owners in Gävle, makes an effort to do something nice to people destroying it is about as egotistical I can imagine. ---

Wouldn’t the purpose of a straw yule goat is that you burn it? Isn’t that the point? Burning Goat.
