Anonymous Gun Control Poll

Invective?

I don’t think that word means what you think it means.

Hell, I’m not sure what you mean at all. I just think you’re kinda confused here.

Maybe ‘invective’ to you means ‘someone expressed a mild opinion in “In My Humble Opinion” that I disagree with.’

If that’s not it, then fuck-all if I have any clue as to what you’re about here.

Gun nuts, Amerika, jack-booted thugs, fantasize… you didn’t say those things?

checks post

Looks like your name. Yep, you did say them. Any reason why you couldn’t have simply posted your opinion without insults?

If that’s a “mild” opinion I’d hate to see an insulting one.

Way to act like adults, RTFirefly and Airman Doors, USAF.

Reopening thread.
Infractions for RTFirefly and Airman Doors, USAF.

Voted for Not banned, but we should have much stricter gun regulations.

I believe in responsible gun ownership. Specifically, gun owners are responsible for what happens with their guns; if your child or a neighbor kid finds your gun and hurts someone, you are subject to prosecution. If your gun is stolen and used in a crime, you are subject to prosecution.

Responsible gun ownership entails securing your gun so it cannot be a danger to others. If you fail in that responsibility, you will be punished. Responsible gun owners have nothing to fear from this approach.

So how did you vote?

Stricter gun regulations.

If I may ask, how would you define “strict”? I mean, like “stricter penalties for gun crimes, and anything worse than a lever-action rifle is banned,” or more like “you can own a gatling gun if you want, but if anyone commits a crime with it, you get the chair”?

Hell, I’d probably be up for the latter, myself.

Basically, you’d have to have a justifiable reason to own one, go through a background check as to your mental stability and criminal background, and you’d have to have a training course in using the things. And the list of justifiable reasons to own one would be pretty short. I want owning a gun to be rare, and difficult.

And as I said upthread, concealed weapons wouldn’t be permitted. I’d want small, easily concealable guns to be even harder to get than big, obvious ones.

As i said,

All firearms should be legal, no new laws/restrictions, eliminate the laws that only restrict “scary looking” guns**, enforce the rules we already have.
**an AR-15 semiauto (a plastic-stocked “scary” rifle that LOOKS like an M-16/M-4 Select-Fire weapon, but is SEMI-automatic only, one round per trigger pull) is less powerful than Grandpa’s old .30-06 wood-and-steel bolt action deer rifle, or his old .30-30 lever-action, the only advantage of the AR is a larger magazine capacity (up to 30 rounds of .223/5.56mm caliber cartridges, basically an overpowered .22 bullet, the .30-30/.30-06 holds 4-5 rounds of a .30 caliber bullet, a .30-xx rifle cartridge is faster and punches a bigger hole than the .223/5.56mm)

I voted “All guns should be legal to own.”

I’m uncomfortable with any of the options, because I would support some gun control legislation, but only if there were an amendment to the constitution changing the 2nd amendment first.

I voted for the status quo. Not that I think things are ideal now so much as I believe they are evolving towards a better system slowly but gradually. If I had to summarize an opinion, it would be more restrictions on who can have a weapon, less restrictions on the weapons themselves and how and where they can be used. I think the success of the CCW programs is a good foundation to start with.

I guess I should stop there as I don’t want an IMHO post to be a form of gun-issue witnessing.

I voted for status quo. I think you do a great disservice to the Constitution when you qualify a constitutional right to the point of virtual non-existence.

Yeah, can’t vote, no good option. Even “things are good as they are” aren’t good enough because too many states and municipalities don’t observe the second amendment. A supreme court ruling could fix that, and soon.

Oh, and I forgot,“Shoulder things that go up” for *EVERYONE

FearItself—Sorry; to clarify, I was curious if you were also talking about more strictly regulating the TYPES of guns that would be legal to own.

I was one of the dinks who voted no opinion. Honestly, I’m completely fine with the gun laws and rights as they are, though I’d be all for stricter punishments for crimes involving firearms. But that’s just the law. I have a different opinion with regards to the social implications of some aspects of gun ownership in this country (there’s foamers on both sides).
