A double action (semi-auto or revolver) is coked by pulling the trigger. A revolver always has a round “chambered” while racking the slide of a semi-auto can give away your position/presence.
The only fault here was the gun was accessible to an unauthorized user.
Your NRA may like to seize the opportunity these incidents supply to urge mandatory live-action gun training for two-year-olds, pointing out this will obviate these tragedies.
Really…if he was that concerned about his safety, he should have had the gun on his person, not sitting on the table.
I’ll not be surprised at all if this turns out to be another case of someone being shot and killed by an ‘unloaded’ gun. And no matter how it went down, it’s the gun owner in this case who is responsible for the death caused by his improperly secured firearm.
So I guess maybe we can resolve that guns are not the problem, and people are not really the problem, we should address the issue of stupid people with guns.
Stupid people plus say, knives or bats, isn’t nearly as dangerous as stupid people and guns.
That’s right up there with stupid people and cars. Cars are heavily regulated because of stupid people.
Gun makers need an internal Ralph Nader to goad them into making guns safer.
I’m not sure how exactly- technomagic of some flavor, like airbags were in the 70s.
Because if gun makers don’t do it, eventually it’'l happen due to outside pressure.
