(Okay, you have to be someone who wears tennis skirts/dresses to join me, which I understand lets out a lot of you.)

But this time I apparently AM the only one who…objects most strenuously to having to buy tennis dresses with NO POCKETS.

These are not cheap. If they were cheap, I could understand it.

Sometimes the salesperson will say, “Oh, here, there’s a pocket in the shorts underneath.” Sorry, that is upside down it is not a pocket.

But more often there is not and you are supposed to stick the ball into the leg of the compression shorts under the skort, if that’s what it is. Or buy undershorts with a ball pocket, if it’s a dress.

Nyet! Pocket in shorts not good enough. For one thing it’s upside down and the ball may fall out. The ball HAS fallen out. Apparently this has never, ever happened to anyone else on a tennis court; I am the only one.

And inside the compression shorts? Nyet! If my first serve goes in then I have to play the whole point with this weird bulge on my thigh and being afraid the ball may fall out.

Now I have a couple of tennis skirts left over from the '90s. Unfortunately they are a little tight on me but they had pockets. Not only that, but when I had balls in the pockets, it didn’t necessarily look like I had tennis balls in my pockets. And yet there they were, very convenient if I missed my first serve. (Which BTW I don’t, very often.)

The reason I say I am the only one who objects to this is, as far as I can tell nobody is any longer making tenniswear for women with decent pockets. I can’t find a single one at the sports store, I can’t find one at the dedicated tennis store, I can’t find one online.

I know the pros don’t wear skirts/dresses with pockets in them because I see them sticking balls up their shorts on occasion but they are pros, so the balls won’t fall out. Also they have ball-people to toss them a ball anytime they want. Also their first serves don’t usually go in. So this is probably their fault somehow. It’s probably all down to Serena Williams.

It is depressing and I think this is why I can no longer win matches.

If anyone out there is also bothered by this problem, which I think there is not, but if there is, let’s get together and form a … coalition or something and demand that the tenniswear industry GIVE US OUR POCKETS BACK!!!

I’ve seen players use a thing that clips on to their belt or waistband and holds a ball at the small of their back. Found a couple ([1](https://www.amazon.com/Gamma-Love-Cup/dp/B004NBP5HU/ref=pd_sim_200_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=RD82YG23Z5Y90WB50KV1), [2](https://www.amazon.com/Tourna-Pocket-Tennis-Waist-Holder-White/dp/B0076ZIV4E/ref=pd_bxgy_200_img_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MYJQTKPAM80DVS66DMKS)) on Amazon, but reviews are mixed. Have you considered something like that?

The belt clip thing has been a thing for awhile (because this is not the first time that women’s tennis clothing has lacked pockets). It did not work for me back in the day, mostly because it bothered me, and so I doubt it would work now.

Now there’s a hip sling thing that looks promising, but it’s an added thing. Like carrying a handbag onto the tennis court. A no-hands handbag, but still.

Just put the pockets in the skirts like you did for awhile there in the late '90s, tennis-clothing manufacturers. Not even ALL the skirts, just some of them. Give us some choice!

They already are. Both cell phones that I have owned, and all that my Dad has owned, have all fit into a standard shirt pocket just fine.

Now on the other hand, if you mean a hand-held computer, (the ones that are mis-called cell phones), no manufacturing company in its right mind is going to make a shirt pocket that big.

Yeah, as a guy-type person (and non-tennis player), I don’t know if I can entirely understand how awkward this is, but I’m going to go ahead and support you in your campaign anyway.

In my experience, you are _never_ “the only one who,” no matter what.

And the world can never have enough pockets. I’ve been wearing the same damn winter coat for years and years, because it has 12 pockets. I’ll replace it when I find another with at least 10.

I very seldom type this, but reading the above had me literally snorting the water I’m drinking. Good job!

And **Suze** , what about vintage 90s skirts then? Surely you could find some on eBay or Etsy that would fit and do the trick. Lord knows that’s what I’ve had to resort to in similar situations when they just don’t make what I want anymore.

Hope you find some.

But only if the pocket has a flap that’s held down with Velcro so I can both get to the ringing phone quickly \*and \*lean over to tie a shoe without it clattering to the floor.

Talk about irritating pockets. …

At home I wear cargo shorts pretty much year round. I like keeping my phone & earpiece in one outer pocket separate from everything else. Helps prevent scratching the phone against keys, etc., and also makes grabbing the ringing phone quickly both easy and unlikely to drag other stuff out of the same pocket unnoticed.

A few months ago I bought 6 pairs of the exact same catalog number from Kohl’s. The only difference was supposed to be the color. Three pairs came with a cargo pocket 1/4" longer than my phone. The other three pairs have the cargo pocket 1/4"+ shorter than my phone so the flap won’t close over it. Gaah!!!

I get that clothes in general are a low margin low quality product, and Kohl’s are especially so. But this is the 21st Century and I’d expect some manufacturing consistency from batch to batch.

I needed to buy a skirt with pockets a few months ago and you would have thought I was trying to buy a jetpack for all the trouble I was having. To be fair, three different sales assistants hurried around looking for what I wanted, but they couldn’t find it. I was about to give up when I finally spotted the one skirt with pockets in that particular store, and it happened to be in my size!

More skirts with pockets! More dresses with pockets! And more shorts with deeper pockets.

Any home sewer will be able to completely solve your problem in but a few minutes with very little fuss. Find a matching/complimenting fabric (tshirt, old napkin, anything will do, very little fabric is needed.)

Fashioning a pocket is pretty easy, and it can be sew on anywhere that suits you.

(I sew hidden pockets inside all my travelling clothes! It’s really simple and works a charm!)

Reading glasses. Cell phones can be ridiculously large these days, so I’m happy with any shirt that has a pocket at all so I can store my reading glasses. Fortunately, I live in place where I can wear my cargo shorts most of the year. I have a use for each of the 4 pockets, and I suppose if there were 2 more, I’d find uses for them, too!

I bought my girlfriend a coat similar to mine, which is a civilian copy of a UK army jacket, and has 6 pockets. SIX of them, all large and all fully sealable. I did this because (a) I am a good boyfriend and (b) women’s clothes never have enough pockets and all-too-often have _fake_ pockets, which are an anathema to right-thinking people of every gender.

Anyway, GF loves her jacket and wears it all the time.

ETA: Every one of those six pockets has plenty of room for all the cell phones, glasses, or anything else you might like to enpocket.

Can I get a pocket in my swim skirt? Not one of those tiny bikini bottoms, it’s a skirt similar to a tennis skirt. I have a hotel key or a tip for the pool-bar bartender and nowhere to put it. I end up carrying them in the boobal area which is just tacky.

Also, in my dress pants. Why can’t women’s clothes makers add a pocket to nice trousers? When I need to take my keys or a tissue or anything else to a meeting, it makes things difficult and messy to bring that, plus my pen, notebook, and glasses.

Pockets for all!

A pocket in every shirt! That’s our rallying cry, do all you can to get the word out. :roll eyes:

Can we be serious for a minute though? Why aren’t there enough belt loops on a pair of slacks or jeans? I’ve had to sew on several to various pairs of pants I own, but that’s not the point. The standard five or six loops is not enough to keep the waistband looking snazzy. Amirite??? Pants makers of the world, you have been put on notice. Get with it.

While I truly sympathize and support pretty much any complaint against clothing manufacturers, I am a bit confused about this specific one.

Why do you want to play tennis with extra balls in pockets? I thought it was all about hitting the one headed towards you from the other side of the net. (Note I refrained from asking why you don’t use the front top pocket).

My own biggest pocket gripe: all the FAKE pockets that manufacturers put into MENSWEAR.

There’s the fake silver dollar pocket on jeans (no silver dollars since forever); the always sewn shut side pockets on all mens’ suits, and of course, the problem that most pockets in pants OTHER than jeans, wear out from the inside, within a week of buying the pants, because they are only there at all, so that the makers can say they put them in.

Yes X 42. My major problem and it is worse in dress shirts.

My cheap “T” shirts also have pocket size’s all over the place.
