I wish I could take him on a trip somewhere to comfort him. Seriously though- the worst part is he isn’t out to his family. This isn’t really the ideal way to remedy that. The media exposure has to be awful, though that part will pass soon enough. Of course if Rekers had any compassion or anything beyond covering his own ass (when a 20 year old’s not doing that for him) or even if he was just a good con-man, he’d be approaching Lucien from the angle of addressing his (Lucien’s) needs- how to do damage control where his family is concerned and all that. Instead, per usual, it’s all about himself. Does it make me a bad person that if Rekers set himself on fire on a street corner I not only wouldn’t shed a tear but would want his estate to pay for hosing off the sidewalk? ---

Actually, based on that conversation, it sounds to me like they didn’t have sex. It sounds to me like Rekers is a man in deep denial about his desires. “I’m not gay. I’ll prove it. I’ll hire this kid, take him on vacation, and nothing will happen!” “OK, the massage happened. But that’s not gay! That’s… therapeutic! If I can let him do that and not have sex, that proves I’m not gay!” A straight man has no reason to use [rentboy.com](http://rentboy.com) to find people to “help.” A man who’s closeted but knows who he is has no reason to not just dive in, so to speak. This seems like a man who is genuinely lying to himself as well as the rest of the world. ---

He doesn’t want a media circus in his life. This isn’t Elliot Spitzer’s honey out to sell her album (or whatever she was doing). And he’s young enough not to realize that you sit tight, it blows over… I do hope after that article someone steps in to protect that kid from the media - get him surrounded by people who will screen his phone calls and let him hide for the two or three weeks this takes to blow over. ---

The one part of the FRC’s comment that ‘it’s hardly surprising’ that I agree with is that it’s hardly surprising when a rabid homophobe who makes his career out of trashing gays turns out to be gay. I might be wrong but I don’t think most sexually healthy straight guys spend that much time thinking about what gay guys do, let alone build a career out of it. If they’re obsessed with sex it’s going to be sex involving women. To borrow [Kelsey Grammer’s recent joke](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hC91pAfd2PY)(that of course got him in trouble with the Greek community)- a Greek guy and an Italian guy are arguing over whose culture is greater: Greek: We invented _democracy_! Roman: True, but we invented the Republic and the Empire! Greek: We invented great food! Italian: But we Italians OWN great food! Greek: We were the first to celebrate sex! Italian: Yes, but we were the first to introduce it to women! I think most guys are more Italian than Reker. I’ve read several “we should have sympathy for this man” but to them all I say “Fuck Rekers and collect your $200.” Half the shit I’ve had to put up with from being gay comes from the bullshit blend of pseudoscience and flat-out lies he and those like him cook up. This man attacked adopted and foster children for his own agenda and to sell his own books and further his own organizations- that is flat out MAN FOR ALL SEASONS evil. I hope he gets torn apart by lesbian maenads and the remains are thrown as confetti by Rip Taylor and the knowledge he’s “fighting issues” (though he’s not fighting them very much evidently) makes me want to see him forced to perform cunnilingus on Della Reese for all eternity. ---

Five pages and no one’s laid any odds on when Rekers will announce he’s going into therapy. The link to the overheard conversation really makes it seem like Lucien has integrity; I hope he’s not just setting up Rekers for a payoff, although I wouldn’t be mad at him if he did. His small business venture might just be ruined. I like how he says “This isn’t something I can just be silenced about!” and stated that Rekers’ struggle wasn’t his. ---
