Another complaint about a warning

Thanks for your post, billfish.

Really, and I’ve said this before, the paper towel tube thing doesn’t bother me. There are things that spin off from it though that do (unfortunately I’ve received a warning in part for describing them so I won’t do so again here), and those are what I’ve tried to find some way to rebut. As I said to Saint Cad in one of the other threads, even I can see the humor in the paper towel tube.

But it seems the mods, in making the decision not to allow me to rebut those spin-off remarks, have also decided that it’s best to disallow the comment that leads to them in the first place, which has always been mention of the paper towel tube. I have not asked them to do this, but it seems fair and equitable to me and in keeping with the board’s longstanding policy of not allowing swipes at posters who can’t defend themselves.

And for the record I’ve had my say on the moderation issue, which is what I wanted and which I took to the forum where it’s supposed to take place. There won’t be another ‘warning complaint’ thread.

Well,

Hope it works out for you. Just let it go. I kinda like you and would hate to see you go over your tilting at a certain windmill. Just grin, bare it when it happens and move on.

Best of luck (seriously).

Bill

Thanks. Actually, I’ve had some surprising support come out of this, both in the threads themselves and by PM, from longtime friends and from people I’ve not heard from before. And you all say pretty much the same thing. So in the words of Steve Jobs, who, finding himself at odds with all of his top execs at Apple over some design issue, finally capitulated, declaring: “I’m not gonna go against my best guys!”

Well, I don’t think I’m gonna go against the advice of people with my best interests at heart either. Your advice is noted and I thank you all.

LMAO!!! If we could only have polls in The Pit!

Well, to be honest I said it was surprising not voluminous.

That’s what she said!!!

(Bold added.)

I see what [del]you did[/del] you’re trying to make him do there!

Hmph… all I’ve got going for me in the meme department is a couple of jokes remembered by one or two people. I can only dream of a reputation where “paper towel tube” invokes such a rich legacy.

They’re at it again!

Paper towel tubes fu! They’re all over this topic over there!

Thread: Goddamn flies! How do you deal? - In My Humble Opinion - Straight Dope Message Board (10/28/2012). See posts #5, 6, 9, 10.

Let the mod warning descend upon them like a horde of fruit flies!

ETA: What this message board needs is a thread like “101 other things to do with a paper towel tube” !

Nahhhh… Everyone would just say “Fuck it”.

One or two more threads on this, and I think we’ll finally have made everyone happy! Keep it up, guys!

That’s because the mods don’t like you. The mods don’t like** Diamonds02** so they tell her to dial her threads back to one a week. She was averaging 20 threads a month and to the mods that is too much. Yet grude is not told to dial it back even after it is pointed out to the mods that he is averaging 49 threads a month.

And now the mods can’t win. Either they have to let Starving Artist rehash his arguments all over the place, or else they have to completely quash a “poor innocent board meme”.

That’s exactly the way I read it. We don’t need this board meme. Kill it with fire, nuke it from orbit.

Crosses to bear. They have to carry the crosses, not strip them naked.

I’m pretty sure the mods are going to win.

The game of public opinion?

Actually, I’m pretty sure it’s because it’s linked to pedophilia. They let scientific racism go on, but they banned Cesario.

The only alternate explanation would be that one of the mods actually likes me, which I seriously doubt.

I’ve explained this a few times, but maybe I was too subtle: if grude’s threads were all poised on the line between plain old stupidity and trolling, we’d tell him to dial it back. From what I’ve seen, that’s not the case.
