Speaking English and being protestant would probably carry them just as far as being white, but his statement is far from “nonsense”. Your post, however, pretty much is nonsense. Being “part white” never helped anybody much, and being Mexican is a _little_ more complicated than being Indian with a little “white” blood mixed in. ---

We don’t have an official language in the US, you know. Nobody cares what language the Pennsylvania Dutch, or all the Russians in New York speak. Anglo and Spanish cultures have been clashing since before the new world was discovered, which suggests it’s not purely a race thing, but it’s incredibly disingenuous to pretend race isn’t a factor. ---
