Yeah, according to [The Unofficial Walther Homepage](http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Quarters/2188/new.html)

> [@](#):

> Last Edition PP and PPK
>
> Walther Germany has announced the manufacture of the Last Edition PP and PPK. This signals the end of a long era of these fine pistols. The PPK will not be available in the US because of the GCA of '68, but it may be possible to get the PP through Earl’s Repair Service. I’ve not checked on this yet with Earl. These pistols will be engraved with “Last Edition PP 1929-1999” and the PPK with have on it, “Last Edition PPK 1931-1999” These are extremely limited production items. A certificate of authenticity is included with each and all of the normal accesories that come with all Walthers. Prices are 1.795,00 DM each, or about $970.00 US dollars. When these are gone, that will be the end of production for the PP and PPK forever.

**Mauvaise** : Hm… Did someone tell you about the roast prime rib and Yorkshire pudding? 😉

**voltaire** : Just checked out your link. I could be wrong, but I think that _Interarms_ is not going to be making any more PPKs. [Walther has entered a partnership with Smith & Wesson](http://www.waltheramerica.com/history.htm):

> [@](#):
>
> In 1999, another step was taken to bring the Walther name into the new millennium. Smith & Wesson of Springfield, Massachusetts and Carl Walther GmbH of Germany announced a joint plan to form Walther USA to distribute Walther branded firearms, air guns and accessories in the United States.

I went down to fill out the DROS forms today, and the dealer said that it would be strange for Walther to stop making PPKs since they’ve only just got them “California Legal” (or is that “PRK-legal”?). The guy at the shop says they sell every one they get, and one of the guys was surprised they actually had one on display since they are usually pre-sold.

Johnny L. A., if you are moving back to Washington state you will be pleased to hear that we don’t do the same thing as California in regard to guns. The federal requirements are all I have had to deal with. The local gun shop always gets my new pistol to me just as soon as the mandatory waiting period is over. I don’t know if you can get a concealed carry permit in L. A. but you can up here if you want one and think you need one. Have you tried any of the SIG pistols? I have the SigPro 40 S&W, it is capable of converting to SIG .357 merely by changing the barrel.

You have to _wait_ for guns? When I show them my CCW they don’t even have to phone in the background check. Just fill out the 4473 and go. Even if I didn’t have a CCW there would be no wait unless the NIC turned up something.

Sigs are nice but they march to a different drummer. My carry piece is a Sig P245. 45 ACP natually. It’s a shorty version of the Sig P220 the state highway patrol carries but with a shorter barrel and 6 round single stack magazine. Basically stock except for a Wolff 17lb hammer spring to give it a controllable double action pull. I may add Trijicon sights but otherwise keep it as issued.

AHHH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! 😃 Aw, geez, that’s rich! “Get a concealed carry permit _in L.A._” 😛 I’m _rollin’_, here! 😃

Anyway, **Haywood** , If I wouldn’t lose about 2-1/2 or 3 months’ severence pay if I quit before I’m laid off (I was notified just under a year ago!), I’d pack up and move _now_. If I can get hired in WA, then I wouldn’t mind quitting quite so much. I’m thinking about buying a house around the Bellingham area while I’m employed. Then when I’m laid off I’ll have a “head start” on payments, about 20 weeks severence (assuming I accumulate maximum vacation hours), CA unemployment payments, and whatever’s in the bank after I make my downpayment (which means about 75% or 80% will be left). Plenty of time to find a job in B’ham.

**Padeye** : I got the PPK/S because I’m a James Bond fan. 😉 One of these days I’ll get a blue one made in W. Germany like the one I used to have. BTW: Do you know the difference between a PPK and a PPK/S?

Goddamn double posting hamsters.

The PPK/S has the longe frame of the PP with the short slide and barrel of the PPK. It was done to get around the bizarre point system the BATmen established for imported handguns after the '68 CGA.

Ok, this is a snippet from a press-release on Walther Germany’s site:

> [@](#):
>
> PP/PPK Last Edition
>
> Since launching of the PP/PPK models 70 years ago they undoubtedly represented a revolution in the field of handguns. Due to rising production costs it has been decided to discontinue manufacture of these traditional firearms in Germany.
>
> The last 500 guns will be manufactured in a version “Last Edition” especially made for collectors worldwide. For this special reason all parts have a high polish and the slide is engraved with “Last Edition”. The gun will be supplied in a luxury case including a video about the history of the Carl Walther company.

So it looks like PP/PPK’s will no longer be made in Germany, nor by Interarms in the U.S., both of which were the two traditional plants, other than France. It could be that Smith&Wesson bought the rights and will start making them again sooner or later, but I’m pretty sure that production has currently ceased. I know that Smith&Wesson is making the S99, which is exactly the same as the P99, but I haven’t heard any plans for the PP or PPKs.

It’s a shame if they do permanently cease production. The PPK was a revolution to semi-auto pistols when it was introduced, and it’s design remained unchanged for over 70 years!
