She was 48 and this was unexpected. We are a mess. We will have her cremated and spread her ashes around in her favorite spot on the river, near where we saw the hummingbird nest last year. Perhaps a BBQ. She would like that. ---

I’m so sorry. It always seems like it was too sudden and too soon when it’s a beloved family member, but doubly so when they’re so young. My condolences to you and yours… I think you’ve chosen a beautiful way to honour her memory and celebrate her life. ---

My heartfelt condolences to you and your family, Ca3799. I think that you will find comfort in what you plan to do. Comfort can be hard to find at a time like this, as I know. On Saturday last my family gathered to scatter my sister’s ashes. We went to the beach, to the cemetary where my Dad is buried, and to an apple tree on our old home property. It was a lovely, sunny, briskly breezy day, a good day for the task. My sister would have liked it. Maybe she did like it, who knows for sure? ---

I lost one sister when she was 41 and another when she was 46. I am sorry for your loss. The river and hummingbird nest site sound nice. ---

Oh geez…very, very sorry to hear that. I spent some time with one of my brothers over the weekend – it was his 50th birthday. And for the first time, I started to consider their mortality. I’m fully prepared for my mom to go – she’s in her 80’s. She’s unbelievably healthy, and women in my family routinely live to be 100, but still – she’s in her 80’s, and anything could happen at any time. But this was the first time I really thought about the fact that there is every chance I’ll be attending funerals for all three of my brothers. The one I visited this weekend is ten years older than I, and the other two are older than he is. It wasn’t a pleasant realization. I’m very sorry you have to deal with such a tragic surprise, **Ca3799**. ---
