I live in the area and am watching it on TV. Reporting 1 dead, 8 injured, and another possible shooter on base. Fucking nutbag shooters. ---

It’s really weird to me (as a former Army brat and former soldier) when this happens on a military installation because there are so many assault weapons near at hand but no way to access them because they are all in the armories. I support gun ownership but damn this kind of shit has to stop happening. ---

The latest update is 4 dead, and it appears to have resulted from an interpersonal dispute. The shooter’s name has shown up on some websites, but I’m not going to say it until I hear it from other sources too. ☹ ---

Local news is stating the shooter’s name is Ivan Lopez. Just 34 years old, and it does appear that this was an instance of workplace violence. Protip: If you disagree with a coworker, let’s leave the guns out of it, m’kay? Shit, just grill a steak or punch each other. ---

Now now, let’s not be silly and over-react. Obviously though, the only way to prevent this kind of tragedy is to pass legislation strictly limiting possession of guns by military personnel. ---

The sensible solution is to require anyone over the age of 8 to carry firearms everywhere at all times, and give them legal indemnity to shoot to kill anytime anyone anywhere does anything that negatively impacts them. ---

These types of shootings are probably the result of the military lowering its standards to staff up during the Gulf War/Afghanistan hoe downs. When I was in if you even considered shooting up the place,you stuffed that particular thought down in a deep, dark place and you made sure that you never visited it again. That level of restraint no longer seems to be the norm. ---

My 21 year-old son is at Ft. Hood. So, two pieces of good news tonight- he was not shot, and he was also not the shooter. Whew! Seriously, though, I was a little worried for about 10 minutes there. ---
