Even money that a sizable percentage of the baby bakery demographic will pay people to disable any “don’t cook your kid” alarm. People used to fool me by walking upright, but I’m on to 'em now! ---

**Zette** , The article mentioned that it does have a special alarm: a loop of an S.O.S. alarm, then a continous one. **LauraLittlePony** , Personally, I haven’t had to deal with a bug in my car, so I have no idea how they are going to get around that. Perhaps they will also use a heat sensor? Something that can sense a concentration of heat? Perhaps it is as **Philster** describes? IIRC, GM will be the first car manufacturer to employ these devices. ---

I find this absolutely heartbreaking. It just boggles my mind that these things can happen. I forget who said it, but I agree that it seems suspicious that the baby was already in rigor mortis by the time it was found in the car. I applied to Target once and it took a looong time, like 45mins to an hour. I don’t know if this woman thought she’d just grab a piece of paper, fill it out and run back to the car, but if that was me, as soon as I realized how long I’d be in there, I’d run back and get that baby out of the car (of course, I wouldn’t have left him/her in there in the first place, but anyway). ---

Ha, you guys laugh. We would have never even \*considered \* some of the things people do today fifty years ago. Not even as fiction. I agree that she should be held to the highest punishments available. But society has a weak spot for the people who commit these crimes. We may be up in arms now, but when time comes to dish out the punishment and follow through with it, we always break down. Happens time and time again. We are becoming a society that accepts and allows too much shit from the fringes of society. ---

The evening news reported that the mother of the dead infant had placed the baby in the car seat eight hours before the baby was found dead. Mother did some errands, went home for a nap, took a shower then went job hunting. The application to Target was her third stop. She told police she forgot the baby was in the car. The family has hired an attorney. The local TV station did a little field research. The temperature in Harlingen this afternoon was 90 degrees (about the same as yesterday). After forty minutes, the temperature in a closed automobile in a parking lot reached 138 degrees and stayed there. ---

I agree, reluctantly, with the three or more people in this thread who have suggested many of these cases are actually deliberate murder. There doesn’t seem to be much follow-up on these stories. What’s the punishment for being so spacey you “accidentally” kill your baby? If it’s as light as I fear it is, murderers are probably catching on by now. ---
