An unasked for WAG… **KellyM** may well not be familiar with Gorey’s work, or may not find any redeeming value in it if she _does_ know what it is. For someone who’s never seen or heard of the thing, the thread could seem a fair bit nasty at face value, no? [sub]Or possibly there’s some incident with a wicked paper-cut we know nothing of?[/sub] ---

**Skeezix** , yes, I am not familiar with the work in question, and to die of ten papercuts seems like a comment on one’s relatively frailty. In light of the fact that I have just returned from a two-month self-imposed hiatus from the Boards (indeed, it’s entirely possible that the OP did not know that I had returned), that particular choice could easily be interpreted as an intimation that the reason I had left the Boards for so long amounted to nothing more than a “few papercuts”. Hence my annoyance. ---

I promise you that “papercuts” was used because it scanned, seemed like a funny method of “death” which kept the tone of the original work (“U is for Una who slipped down a drain”) and nothing personal was intended. In fact, truth be told, I…um…\< cough \> skipped a letter (“Y” )and had to redo a bunch: the JDT one was actually specific as were one or two others (um…Quasimodem and um…Homebrew, I think), so everyone else’s fate got mixed up. I’m fairly certain that before the great reshuffling, you were “Trampled by Mammals”. And honestly, I hadn’t realized you’d returned: I haven’t been around all that much myself recently as my work access to the SDMB has been cut off. Anyway, I apologize for the misunderstanding and assure you that nothing peronal was meant. Fenris PS: If you haven’t read “The Gashlycrumb Tinies”, I recommend it a lot. It’s a very, _very_ funny book/story with hilarious illustrations (my favorite is “Neville, who died of ennui”). I won’t link to them, as I suspect they’re a violation of copyright, but a few sites have put up the entire work: a quick GOOGLE search should find it. ---
