# Another "help me identify this film" thread

I don’t know why I didn’t come here first instead of futzing with AI, but here I am.

It is a lower budget horror movie featuring a witch. IIRC, the first thing we see is the witch on the land around her little wooden shack. I’m thinking dusty prairie.The most outstanding thing is she literally wears a pointy black hat and black dress. She is not particularly old and wrinkly, but rather has dark hair. IIRC, there is no sound except maybe the wind. We see her for several moments going about her business gathering things(?), out in the field looking at the sky(?). I think we are looking at her from the POV of a young girl who is secretly watching her. Then the witch turns to look at her / us. I don’t recall too much about the rest of the movie, only that the opening scene really disturbed me. Something about her being dressed in a stereotypical costume, yet the tone is dead serious. I thought I might have seen it on Shudder but I’m not finding it. It wasn’t something that I sought out and could be something that auto played on Tubi.

Does this ring anyone’s witchbells?

Annnnd, I found it. It’s _The Book of the Witch_ . I misremembered a lot of it, and the version in my faulty memory is scarier. I do still find it kind of creepy, I guess because it’s different than most witch movies. I’m going to watch it again, just cause it’s free and it’s Halloween.
