Well, if we’re updating I can report that Bear is doing better as well. The goopy eye thing didn’t go away on its own so after a vet visit (and getting him in and out of the car was about as much fun as I’d anticipated!) he was diagnosed with keratoconjunctivitis and now he’s on a couple different meds, Optimmune cyclosporin ointment and another high dose antibiotic. I’m also using artificial tears to keep his eye moisturized and cut down the goopage. He’s doing pretty well with it. ---

Today was the day. Sweetie went to the Rainbow Bridge this morning. She was miserable, though still eating some and walking with great difficulty. I don’t think she was in pain, but she was distressed and miserable. (Me, too.) The bestest, sweetest dog in the whole world. I could have kept her going for maybe even a few weeks… but I’ll hark back to what my mother said when one of my cats was on her last legs many years ago, “Are you keeping her alive for her or for you?” Bye, Sweetie… 👋🏽 I love you. ---

I am so sorry for your loss. It’s so hard to lose a good dog. Sweetie was lucky to have you and to have such a good life with you filled with such care and love. I hope you can take comfort in knowing how well you took care of her, especially in those last months. My Sammy died in June, just a month short of his 16th birthday. He had been declining for over a year, but his last week was an especially good one; he collapsed trying to go up the stairs the night before I had him put to sleep and the vet confirmed the next day that his heart was struggling; she was surprised he was able to stay on his feet but he was always a tough little terrier. My daughter drove over to be there and we were petting him and rubbing his velvet ears and telling him what a good boy he was as he passed on. I’m going to miss him forever. ---

Hugs, Thelma. We’ve scheduled for them to come out for one of our guys this Saturday. He’s twelve and injured himself about six months ago – it’s never healed right, leaving him with a painful, bad limp. A saluki who can’t run is not really a happy saluki. He has a large mass in his chest which has been slowly killing him and he’s lost a lot of weight. The odds were putting him under for surgery on his foot would kill him; sight hounds are tricky to anesthetize in the best of circumstances. > [@Johnny\_L.A](#): > > I wish pets wouldn’t die. So very sorry. We lost our beloved Corgi two days after Christmas and I will always miss him. It’s so very hard. You can take comfort in the fact that you gave him all the love and the best life he could have. Hugs to you. One of the pet Facebook groups I frequent had this quote after the death of a beloved pet, which I found inspiring: “For the love of corgis, we endure these moments of heartbreak.” ---

Thanks, y’all for these very kind thoughts. It’s so weird to come in the house and not run to make sure she’s okay and hasn’t fallen or anything. But the house is so empty… except for two cats. I should say, it’s so empty of Dog Energy. ---
