Our 22 year old must have less than [$2,000 in assets](http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/ssa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=LynYcZqg&p_lva=&p_faqid=93&p_created=955541421&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTM1JnBfY2F0X2x2bDE9NDgmcF9wYWdlPTE*&p_li=) to be eligible for SSI. That’s a little bit less than $2.4 million.

See how the process of looking up facts works, **John**? It’s kinda neat.

With this precedent, doctors, insurance companies, and HMOs are now going to require genetic testing on all pregnancies.

If a defective fetus is discovered, they will order the pregnancy terminated or risk losing coverage.

Ladies, I know you don’t want the government dictating your right to choose; imagine how bad it would be if an HMO dictated those terms to you.

Nuh-uh. Sorry, that’s not how it works around here. You’ve made the assertion, you back up the claim.
Please explain to the class how using hundreds of hours of billable time taking a case outside one’s primary area of practice for no compensation to either the lawyer or his or her firm somehow becomes profitable.

While you’re at it, explain how trial attorneys interpret the law instead of judges. Explain how trial attorneys enforce the law, rather than the police. Explain how trial attorneys write the law, instead of the politicians.
Or, failing that, here’s an easier assignment for you. Assume that trial attorneys do have a death grip on all three branches of government and have found a way to bypass all checks and balances set up by the system. State why you believe that all trial attorneys somehow have a similar, sinister outlook on the direction the government takes. Explain why you believe trial attorneys are of one mind, like The Borg, and they’re all working towards a common goal of screwing you over.

Well, you should be reminded that:
-Judges are lawyers; they have a vested interest in promoting the wealth of lawyers.
-At present, there are almost NO checks on the ability of a jury to fleece defendents. Hence, we see millions awarded for trivial injuries (see the “McDonalds Coffe lawsuit”).
-most elected officials are lawyers as well.
So, there you have it:
government of, by, and for the lawyesr/
I rest my case.

But your case is transparent and stupid. Next time, try to introduce some evidence.

It is you who are stupid, how can any profession police itself? The bar overseers are all lawyesr, the agencies overseeing the courts are all lawyers, and the arbitartors are all retired judges/lawyers.
So before you call someone stupid, examine your arguements.

Sure there are. The defendents have _lawyers_ that argue the defendents position and the judge can set aside a verdict or reduce a jury award that he finds excessive. This happened in the very McDonalds case you cite. IIRC, the award was cut to under a half million.
