OK, so I decided I’d just go ahead and start a new photo assignment since there seems to be enough interest in [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=349211&page=1&pp=50).

I’ve been wanting to buy a camera, but feel guilty about buying a toy as money is a bit tight. But this is an assignment! I have to do it, right? Plus the photos in the previous thread where great fun to see. I’m in… get ready for some truely bad shots from a beginner.

This sounds cool! Do we need to take one photo for each category and submit the ‘portfolio’ or do we just choose one category?

This one I will be able to participate in, since I already have 3 of these 4 shots in my collection. I tried several times for really good macro and perspective shots but none turned out worth sharing.

I’m game - but will take my time taking new shots for this. I expect my Photographer’s Choice will be more IR, though - that ozone hole sure makes for great IR photos, I guess 🙂

I have a lot of gadgets and gizmos and toys, but if I had to give away all but one, this is the one that would stay. This picture was a challenge to take - I only had one hand mirror in the house, and it was a magnifying makeup mirror at that. Plus getting the lighting right so that I didn’t have to fire the flash, getting the focus the way I liked it… it was tough. But I like the result (I flipped the image in Photoshop so that it wasn’t backwards, but I probably should have left it alone.)

This is one of my favorite pictures, though not one of my best.

We decided to have a shrimp and crab boil on New Years day. My brother who used to live in New Orleans told me that the Cajuns always take a picture of the food spread out before they eat it; so we did to.

My wife gave me this Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT for our anniversary in November. She gave me the Canon Speedlite 550EX flash for Christmas. I tried for hours to have the camera take a picture of itself but I wasn’t happy the results so I took this one with my previous camera, a Canon Powershot S50.

I had to foster them when they were 4 weeks old and had to do ALOT of supportive care. Three different meds twice a day and twice daily subcutaneous fluids for little Rabi. They’re about 6 months old now and completely healthy!
