US Health insurance industry had 1.1 TRILLION dollars in revenue last year. It’s market share is growing faster than the general economy, and faster than the finance and insurance sector. [It is the largest industry in the financial and insurance sector, and the 5th largest industry in the entire country](https://www.ibisworld.com/industry-statistics/market-size/health-medical-insurance-united-states/).

It is huge. It is entrenched. It is highly politically connected. It’s not going anywhere. And this money being siphoned off by this huge industry is one of the reasons Americans pay much more than other countries; your money is simply propping up this industry, doing a job that is done much more efficiently by many other countries.
