Like you guys suggested I did finally talk to him, and he was totally embarrassed as well and the first thing he said was “I hope I can count on your discretion.” So it all worked out but I am not going to risk that job again. The really weird part is we ended up talking a while and we’ve been texting back and forth a lot, and he’s actually a really cool guy. So that is sort of happening. ---

NEW SECRET I had multiple affairs on my wife starting when we had been married for only 5 years. (We’re 25+ at this point.) It culminated in a 5 year affair with a married woman, it got bad, as in the husband beating on my car with a snow shovel, as in her calling my wife and telling her we’d just had sex, bad, bad, bad…so after a LOT of counseling, soul-searching and a LOT of forgiveness on my wife’s part, I completely ended it and went cold turkey with the extramarital activities… About the same time that was ending, I was recruited for what has become a dream job for me, one of those career-culminating jobs that I worked so hard to achieve, and after 7+ years, it has been great…I mentor our younger colleagues, we create products in a great team atmosphere, and everyone looks at my wife and I as a marriage success story as they have absolutely no freaking clue what I put my wife through for 5+ years…not to mention the husband…we were so co-dependent and obsessed, it was bad and it cured me of ever wanting to put anyone - myself included - through that ever again… I sit in meetings sometimes and think, man, what if they knew what a scumbag I used to be? ---

Frankly, you shouldn’t make this a secret and wear it as a badge of honor. Sure, you were an asshole and did asshole-ish things, but you also learned through it and fought through it and you’re a success story that no matter how bad of a person you think you are, you can change and be a better one. But is “texting” now just assumed to be the same as “having sex with?” Or is that just the assumed natural cycle of life; as surely as the day follows the night, so too shall the sexing follow the texting? ---

At 50, I don’t know much about kids these days either, except that their incursions on my lawn grow deeper and more numerous with every passing year. But I assume the texting is meant to lead to meetings and dating and who knows where that will lead. I’m just saying if it does lead to sex, I don’t see the big deal, as long as everyone is on the same page. ---

I think in a Venn diagram, anarchists would be entirely inside the asshole group, and libertarians would overlap about 90% with anarchists, but a tiny libertarian sliver might be outside the asshole group. ---
