Another tedious 'recommend a laptop' thread

My needs are virtually identical to yours, although I prefer a 17" screen. I use my laptop almost exactly the same except I use my touch pad. However, it can be disabled and I learned this by accidentally disabling it a couple of times.

Another vote for Toshiba. I replace mine every 3 years only because they are my primary tool for work. All my old ones still work, and that’s a pretty good testament to their quality. I don’t spend a lot of time making accommodations to software or hardware. Everything just works as it is supposed to.

Mine has an internal DVD, good speakers and is solidly built. I’m on the third year of this one and may stretch it another year because no glitches or problems whatsoever.

Good luck! Never an easy decision. I’ve had equally good luck purchasing mine through either Best Buy or direct from Toshiba.

Another nod to Toshiba. I’ve had mine for over six years with no problems. Even the battery health is above 80% even though I keep it plugged in all the time. It upgraded to Win 10 with no problems.

May I recommend a refurbished HP business laptop that you can buy from here. The website is terrible and low on info, but with a little googling of the part numbers you can get full details. And the prices are great. Another drawback is that you have to call them to place the order, but the phone wait is not terrible at all the sales people are very helpful.

I have bought laptops from this site several time for myself and family/friends. The biggest advantage is that the business laptops all have the basic Windows loaded without any of the bloatware that comes with consumer stuff.
