TCM showed one of my favorites tonight - “Night Must Fall” (1937?) starring Rosalind Russell, Robert Montgomery, and Dame May Whitty. Set in the beautiful English countryside, RR is the browbeaten companion to bossy old woman DMW who is in a wheelchair (though she can walk just fine if she wants). RM is a charming Irishman who worms his way into the household. There has been a rash of murders and everyone, including the servants, is getting more and more jumpy…This is a creepy little movie, full of psychological suspense, and all the actors are just perfectly wonderful. Especially Robert Montgomery, a psychopath full of charm and the gift of gab. sucking up to the silly mean old woman, and mesmerizing Ms. Russell much against her will.
I actually own The Dark Secret of Harvest Home (with Bette Davis) - the miniseries - on VHS. Very good!
