I have been going crazy trying to remember another word I once heard for _pallet_, as in a wooden portable platform used for storing or moving cargo or freight.

I heard it used in factories in New England if it helps.

I been places where they were called skids.

Pallet was more common–'cause we used pallet jacks to move them.

I know a few words for them but they are more suitable for the pit.
I work with pallets all weekend and let me tell you they are a big pain in the butt.

New England does have some unusal names for things. A milk shake is a frappe there. I have heard them referred to as a skid, a slip, a flat and as a bolster in addition to pallet.
