In case you care, some \*\*FCD \*\*job details: working for a company in Lexington Park, (about 22 miles from here) that does contract work with NAS Pax River as well as non-gov’t work. They want to build an engineering dept, and they want my sweetie to help them do that. The pay is a wash, but he’s getting 3 weeks of vacation, all 10 Fed holidays, plus 40 hours of sick leave annually. He’s direct report to the Chief Operating Officer, who’s a former Navy CPO. And he starts 8/3, so the only question left is - will his current employer give him the boot immediately? Daughter and nephew are in DC doing the tourist thing. They’ve got tickets for the Wash monument at 9 tonight, so they’ll be home late. SIL stayed home because he was feeling ick. So I need to come up with supper for 3 of us. Dryer repair guy is coming tomorrow. Meanwhile, I have a load of jeans that I’ll hang out this afternoon. May as well save a little electricity to cover the cost of the repair. ☹ Poor Bernie has a goopy eye, but it doesn’t seem to be bothering her. I think maybe the idiot cat scratched it or something. I tried to wipe it with a damp washcloth - she didn’t pull away or yelp, so I’m guessing it’s a minor eye infection that’ll pass. Is it Firday yet?? ---

The headache isn’t alcohol-related: I only drink alcohol about once a year and it’s for reasons like “being in Prague and not trying the local lager is a sin.” Since I’m already familiar with the local specialties here, there’s no reason to give myself a headache. No, it’s from allergic congestion - is it still called “nasal congestion” if it goes from your lungs to your eyeballs? It seems to be linked to these flowers Mom bought on Monday; she refuses to throw them away. Has promised she “won’t buy them ever again” but that’s like a politician promising to tell the truth… Anyway, now that the sun is down and so’s my congestion, _pillowfight!_ ---

Congrats **FCD**! I am still gainfully employed - Whoohoo 😃 - My direct boss (who is The Awesome) told my functional boss (who is The Moron) to “Fuck off and Die” in a very professional non - cursing way today. It was great. She did tell me to stop being so hard on myself, she trusts me and it sounded like I need a vacation. Did I mention she is The Awesome and I want to be just like her when I grow up 😃 I also had an MRI on my injured not getting any better knee today - Damaged ligament, bruised bone and damaged but not torn meniscus. Follow up with the Ortho Doc next week. Rosie’s sig to all! ---

Hope they can patch you up soon-like, and with a minimum of fuss. **Nooner** , there is a handful of Israelis I’m itching to bonk with a pillow right now, purely as a stress relief measure (though, actually… by “bonk” I mean “smack into next Tuesday”, and by “pillow” I mean “sledgehammer”). However, you are not one of them… so I won’t subject you to that. 🙂 I do appreciate the offer, though. Congrats to **BBBBobbio** and to **FCD**! I did not go to work today; instead I stayed home, medicated and got plenty of rest. Guess I must have needed it. Yeah, Furries tend to keep a low profile hear because we get tired of of trying to explain all the misconceptions. I remember a thread a while back that split between people asking questions out of genuine curiosity and a few judgmental idiots who just wanted to point and laugh at the weirdos. Midwest FurFest is lots of fun; in ten years we’ve grown from a few hundred members to over 1500. Our main hotel for this year is already fully booked, and last year we ended up with two overflow hotels. I’ve never made it to one of Uncle Kage’s storytelling sessions because they’re invariably schedule during my busy work time, but I have met him. A few friends have been trying to get me to do AnthroCon (I suspect they have ulterior motives, since one of them runs the Dealers Room). I’ll need to check into airfares for next year, and see if I can share a room with someone, which wuill make it more affordable. I’ve got AIM, but hardly ever remember to sign in since I don’t have that many people to chat with…it’s sort of a trade-off between trying not to spend so much time online and trying to make new friends. But I’ll try to remember to add you to my list and maybe we can chat occasionally. ---

Congrats for the job, **FCD**! That RR recipe sounds like teh nom, **Taxi**. I like her, usually, but sometimes I just want to say grow up, already! Conga-rats also to **Bobbio** on passing the exam. Worked today, boo. Day off tomorrow, yay! Friday starts 7 in a row, double BOO! Tomorrow I plan on packing the rest of the office, clean the kitchen and do the laundry. We’ll see how much actually gets done. Time to forage for dindin. ---

They’re non-ironic, not really surprising, and kind of make you go “huh… well that’s not unexpected” or “yeah, I’m not surprised by that news.” Can anyone provide the perfect word for such scenarios? (Of course I can. It’s a message board and you can’t stop me! Neener neener.) A couple weeks ago we found out that our on-call duties were being expanded to cover another process, which was going to be scheduled on Saturdays. Previously the only process we covered was on Sunday so that was the only real on call time. I was not exactly pleased. (Read: super pissed off.) Boss brought it up recently and said, “I’m going to have them schedule [new process] on Sunday so we don’t have to give up an entire weekend to on-call duties.” Sweet! We also get annual goal which are tied to our annual bonuses. Our year runs from Feb-Jan. We’ve never gotten the goals before the middle of June, and this year it was today, aka the middle of July, aka halfway through the year. But Boss, being awesome, had included stuff we’ve already been working on (or had us work on stuff earlier in the year that was going to become goals) so we wouldn’t have a year’s worth of “stretch” goals with half a year to go. So yeah, I really really like, not just Boss, but all of the people I work for, up to the CEO who I run into in the hall sometimes and who’s really approachable. ---
