Anti-SSM argument goes from stupid to... what the heck is this?

I really don’t care what anyone else on here thinks. What could possibly make you think that? I consider that an *endorsement *of my reasoning! The only ‘argument’ I have seen from anybody is that ‘people want this to be true’. Sorry, that is no argument. We all face all kinds of limitations in society. That does not make the society an inherently unjust one.

Does the fact that several states, including Califuckingfornia passed a constifuckingtutional amendment mean nothing? California, the most liberal state in the union? How can you possibly sit there and tell me that nobody agrees with me? Are you completely ignorant?

I feel it might be misconstrued if I urge him to use terminal punctuation.

Don’t assume anything.

Gosh, I don’t think that’s in the dictionary!

Well, it’s something they will have to add, won’t they?

California is the most liberal state in the union? That’s rich. I lived in San Deigo and I promise you that ain’t so.

loses monocle

Sure.

The only way that could be true is if you paid absolutely no attention to anything anyone else wrote. I find that highly plausible, but it doesn’t help your case.

So now you’re infuriated that someone isn’t paying attention to ballot measure and polls? You’ve seen the polls that show your opinion is now held by an increasingly insignificant minority. California’s amendment was thrown out, so yes, in the literal sense it now means nothing, and bans on same-sex marriage are now falling even in states like Utah and Oklahoma. And I just told you that 11 other states have legalized same-sex marriage the same way in five years, and three or four more will join them in November.

Members of the same sex aren’t capable of having an intimate or close union?

The times, they are a changing my friend. You better start swimming or you’ll sink like a stone.

So, why are you posting here, then?

Not an argument.

My favorite thing is that even with this hijack (or even more so!) the thread title still fits!

And this, kids, is why fighting ignorance will never be done. Cecil’s mission is unwinnable, when ignorance is tautological.

Yawn.

Why has no one opened a pit thread yet!?

Well, in the second sentence, it’s fine (and I believe preferred UK style, since it’s a complete sentence. Seems completely logical to me.) The first half, yeah, I can see why one would prefer logical quotes to typesetters’ quotes and leave the comma outside the quotation mark.

I did report this thread to get it moved to the pit a while back, but honestly it’s like he’s pitting himself. What more does anyone need to say?

Yeah, it’s pretty scary how opinions have changed in the few years since California passed that amendment. It must be especially scary for you as you see polls showing support has crossed 50% in your own state. Tick, tick, tick… The clock is ticking for the dinosaurs…

But as you are fond of noting, “popular opinion” and “votes” and all that are just argumentum ad populum, so we don’t have to bother explaining anything about old, out-of-date votes in California.

It could be a great song though.
