> Hardly unique, but it’s more often coming from civil libertarians of a left-ish bent. By-and-large, leftists haven’t been much into physical violence the last couple-three decades. The influence of Dr. King, etc.

This is absolutely false.

The political violence in the U.S. since the 1960s on has been, overwhelmingly, from the left. The riots are from leftists groups, the 'burn shit and break this it’s because we don’t like the verdict/result of the election/whatever is from leftists groups.

I’ve posted a breakdown of political violence in the U.S., using Wikipedia as source, multiple times on this board. It is always met with a ‘No true scotsman’ response because it is clear that the right is not the cause of political violence in the U.S. at present.

The right has their share of loons. And they tend to be better at killing people (see McVeigh) but there is far less political violence from the right.

In fact, sports related violence is second place after the left.

And when you think of American and Canadian sports related riots what cities do you think of? Boston? Vancouver? Chicago?

How strange…because I’ve posted breakdowns of political violence in the US, [using Wikipedia as a source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-wing_terrorism#United_States), multiple times on this board too, and the assertion that the left are far worse is not supported by evidence. While left-wing extremist groups continue to exist (mostly of the ecoterrorist and animal rights variety), [right-wing terrorism overtook left-wing terrorism two decades ago](https://archives.fbi.gov/archives/news/testimony/the-terrorist-threat-confronting-the-united-states) and [remains one of the biggest concerns to the FBI](http://www.newsweek.com/2016/02/12/right-wing-extremists-militants-bigger-threat-america-isis-jihadists-422743.html) and [other law enforcement agencies](https://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/16/opinion/the-other-terror-threat.html?_r=0)along with radical Islamic terrorism.

Back on topic, however: fuck this bike lock assailant. He’s an asshole.

I’m glad the guy was caught whatever his political leanings may be. Political opinions should be supported by facts, reason, argument and debate, and not violence.

Clearly there are times when physical acts are required to settle political issues, but this was not one of them.

Let’s not discount, however, the 2016 election. Many who voted for Trump did so with the express desire to “throw a hand grenade” to blow up the whole system.

That’s “burn shit and break this” on the largest scale imaginable.

Anyway, I’m glad the caught the asshole with the bike lock.

I first heard the “weaponized” tag in this thread, and I love the idea that a trait that most see as a negative can be used as a weapon.

Someone tried to weaponize OCD but he got bogged down in the details.

Who uses ‘ANTIFA’?

ISTM that it’s an acronym used by far-Right extremists. I’ve never (personally) heard it applied to Trump.

Here in the US at least, it seems to be used by far-left extremists. For example, here’s the group local to me: [https://www.facebook.com/UtahAntifascist](https://www.facebook.com/UtahAntifascist)

I’m not making fun of them or ‘bullying’ them. Secondly, it’s my understanding that “weaponized autism” is their own preferred label, and that’s something I’ve been trying to be more respectful of lately.
>
> Question for you, **Channing Idaho Banks** : Do you believe Ben Schreckinger was “disparaging the handicapped” [when he used the exact same phrase](http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/03/memes-4chan-trump-supporters-trolls-internet-214856)? In other words, are there innocent / non-disparaging / non-bullying ways to use the phrase, or are any and all uses of the word pairing “weaponized autism” disparaging and bullying in your mind? If it’s the former, could you explain to me how my usage qualifies as disparaging / bullying? (And if it’s the latter, IDGAF anymore)

Are these hackers really autistic? It’s a distasteful phrase to use and I won’t be using it. Just because 4chan uses it doesn’t mean that it deserves repeating.

It’s really just crowd sourced investigating. Even if there were autistics in the group I wouldn’t use the phrase.

Perhaps you missed it, but “ANTIFA” is short for “ANTI-FAscist”. They’re essentially extremist anti-Trump leftists. The people who claim that label for themselves often get ridiculed as “ANTI-First-Amendment” by their opponents for their assaults on people expressing viewpoints they disagree with. Trump doesn’t claim the “ANTIFA” label or self-identify as ANTIFA. In fact, he often gets accused of quite the opposite (see **running coach** ’s post, for example).
