My great grandmother had a parlor. Scary fucking room. Horrible overstuff itchy furniture and these photos of old relatives, hung so that the top came way from the wall a good 6-8 inches, while the bottom of the frame was fastened to the wall. Gave the impression that these very scary grumpy looking people were staring down to kill you.
I’ve lived in a place with a cloakroom, and an airing room, a drying room, a pantry, front sitting room and private sitting room, along with a coal room and a backplace - which is something like an outhouse but larger.
You can tell if someone lives in a real posh house, they don’t have a conservatory - they have an orangery instead, and probably a candle room. Does a gate lodge count toward all this?
Nonsense. While our seen is also my husband’s office, we all use it to watch tv or play video games. It’s also what the cook books live.
I have a friend with a dungeon. He says it’s so much work to use it that he rarely does, though.
Den, not “seen”.
We also have a functional dining room, where we host thanksgiving and Passover, with a large table that’s also used as a buffet for other events, and as a large workspace for crafts and jigsaw puzzles. I am so glad I bought a house with a dining room.
I think the rest of our rooms are common and conventional. Bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room… Hmm, we have a large finished room in the basement that doesn’t really have a name. Maybe I can find a good name for it in this thread. Rumpus room? Obliette?
Work? It’s hardly any work at all! A few signs put out to attract adventurers to feed the hobgoblins and dragons, and get an otyugh or neo-otyugh to deal with the waste streams, and Bob’s your uncle.
Heck, if that’s too hard, he can just invest into undead + death traps. Buying that first sphere of annihilation is pricy, but it’s worth the peace of mind having a good place to display your phylactery and Hummel figurines. Kids these days, with their lazy dungeoneering work ethic…
Yeah, um, it’s not that kind of dungeon…
My grandmother had a parlor. But she was born in 1900.
My grandparents also had a coal cellar and I can remember them getting deliveries of coal when I was a kid.
They also had a pantry, which I think is a great idea. I’d love to have a side room off my kitchen for storage.
No, I was just playing with the word 'cause they sound similar.
