Any Advent Calendars that are actually worth it?

There’s a Die Hard themed advent calendar:

That is brilliant! An advent calendar that is truly worth buying.

On kickstarter there is a creator making advent calendars with D&D dice in them.

I get the Star Wars one, my eldest gets the City one, and the youngest gets the Harry Potter one.

My wife doesn’t want a Lego one, she has a wooden heirloom one she refills with chocolate every year. So I get the best handmade chocolates I can find.

My wife’s wooden calendar is older than she is, it originally came from Germany in the late 50s or early 60s. And it has drawers for stuff.

When I was a kid in the 80s advent calendars were just a door to open with a Christmas-y scene, maybe a piece of chocolate if we were lucky. One year we got a neat one that had a little miniature ornament in each spot.

Now with a kid of my own, we’ve gone through a few Lego ones along with a few other toy ones. Aldi has stepped up their advent calendar game over the last few years with various toys, cheese, chocolate, pet treats, coffee, wine, beer, and probably a couple more, with long lines and purchase limits on the day that they go on sale. I’ve tried most of the consumable ones with some hits and missed. The cheese one is great (with some repeats) but have gotten a moldy piece or two over the years. We’ll keep getting that one regardless. The beer one was OK for a year but we didn’t bother a second year. The wine one was great the first time we got it two years ago (wines from around the world) but then last year the wines were all from California with some repeats and we opted to try the Costco version, which we liked much better. We also preferred the larger size bottles of the Costco calendar (375ml vs 187ml). It cost a bit more (but not twice as much) and it was nice for my spouse and I to each have a glass rather than a few sips. I plan to try and snag that one again this year. Costco also has a beer calendar that I got one year and it was fine, too, but I think we much prefer to have a little wine at night than beer. We open them in the morning so if the wine is white we can put it in the fridge for later. Aldi also does a “countdown to NYE” box with sparkling wines, which we like.

I would love to get this single malt whiskey advent calendar:

I was in Costco earlier today and saw a Lindt advent calendar, though I don’t remember how much it was.

I’ve found a few tool advent calendars. But they were too pricey for me.

I only have 4 pair of underwear, and I’m keeping them!

More Advent calendars than you can shake a stick needle-less Christmas tree at,
