Speaking of baseball there was a consiracy/plot to steal signals by IIRC, a fairly major team, that was poo-poohed at the time but turned out (50 years later when one or more of the particpants fessed up ) to be true and involve a fairly complex conspiracy.

Well, it came out in that “Wall Street Journal” report, which I think deserves a Pulitzer Prize, that the 1951 Giants came back against the Brooklyn Dodgers by using a patently unfair system to steal Dodger signals. And I don’t know, how many of you remember the Brooklyn Dodgers? I do. And the reason was – that the Giants were successful in their tremendous comeback at home at the Polo Grounds was that there was a secret wire that went from the center field observation post, which was manned by somebody from the Giants with a telescope, to a buzzer at Leo Deurocher’s elbow, which would indicate what the catcher’s signal was whether it was going to be a fastball or a slow ball, or a curve. This would be tremendously valuable information for the batter. If there was one ring on the buzzer, it meant one type of pitch and if there was no ring, it meant another type of pitch. They were stealing signals. Bobby Thompson knew what pitch the Dodger catcher was asking Branca to throw. That was the ultimate inside information and it’s those of us who were brought up in Brooklyn, who remember those times and how the Giants stole the playoff series from the Dodgers, who understand the morality of what’s fair and what ain’t fair. Arthur Levitt was from Brooklyn. It’s fair to steal signals if you see it from second base, but there’s a certain line you do not cross, there are no rules about it, but you know fraud when you see it. What went on at the Polo Grounds in 1951 was fraud.

Oh… I just remembered, how about the currently developing story of the Enron et al manipulation of energy prices in last years California energy crisis. Looks like collusion at least, if not an actual “conspiracy”.
